SMH!!

Ok also i hear this like noise behind the dash where the radio and thermostat is and it sounds like water running thru some pipes or something and then it started knocking!! Help if anyone experienced anything similiar.

  4. I went to have my 93 SC400 looked at today because i was having the same problem the previous members were having regarding hesitation. Well my diagnoses was that my torque converter in the transmission is bad and the final result is that i basically have to get my tranny rebuilt so my question to my fellow Lexus owners is who here has had there tranny rebuilt and how much or who has had torque converter issues before and what did you do to fix it.

  5. i think having him rebuild the rack for that much is a bit ridiculous... i would just have a new one put in...they run about $250-$300. do you have aftermarket rims? I know that on my 300 my tires follow big grooves in the road and the steering wheel will buckle when running over some holes in the road, as long as you are driving and let go of the wheel if the car doesn't pull drastically you should be ok... i think that is normal...if not, me and you are in the same boat!

Well to be honest thats not true when it comes the price of the rack because i called everywhere and i have the rack that has the EVO system and for some reason that is priced higher than a regular rack and thats over 400 dollars easily so him rebuilding it plus labor comes out the same pretty much I've done my research trust me, also i do have aftermarket wheels so i guess we are in the same boat

  6. I have 93 SC400 i'm having serious steering problems, When i'm on bumpy roads or roads with grooves in it my steering wheel is all over the place now I just replaced my LCA'sand UCA's with Daizen bushing kit but during the repairs they noticed my rack was leaking so my mechanic said he can rebuild the rack for $650 including alignment i have to get it done but do you think this will resolve my problem.

  7. Opinions needed:

I'm considering trading my 96 SC400 for a 98 GS400. Although alot of the decision is personal opinion of the cars, I'd like any input on the sc vs the gs. At a glance, it looks like I'd be sacrificing some good looks for more power. Tell me what you think.

Id stay with the SC as well very fun car to drive

  8. I saw this product on ebay called Turbnado and its suppose to give you more gas mileage as well as give you a HP boost. You install it bewteen your air filter and your throttle body. Does anyone know of this? is this a good product? I'm trying to do anthing to save some money on gas as well put a little boost in my SC400. Thanks.

P.S. If anyone could recommend anthing similiar to this product that I could use would be helpful and appreciated.

  9. I was tryng to change my park lights today and i was very unsuccessful it looks like you have to remove the battery on the driver side and remove the air filter compartment on the passenger side please someone tell me this is not true because i can't get my hand down there to save my life and also what is the bulb model because it doesnt state clearly in the manual.

  10. I may have a possible leak in my steering rack and when i was in the auto parts store i saw this product that stop leaks in your rack and pinion I can't remember the name to save my life but i was reading it and states to flush the power steering system and to add this fluid when adding back fresh fluid. My question is has anyone used any type fluid that stops leaks in your rack and pinion and it worked if so please let me know.

  11. Two questions:

1st - In an attempt to save some $$ ($155 at Lexus dealer) I went out and bought the OEM tranny fluid in preperation to do a flush and filter cleaning. Then in an effort to check my tranny fluid level (with the dipstick on the side of the SC4 engine) I found it absolutely impossbile to get an accurate reading because of excess fluid that keeps smearing all over the dip stick when it slides out of the shaft. Doesn't matter if my engine is hot, warm or cold - Fluid covers half the dipstick keeping me from getting any type of reading. So now i'm deadly afraid to even attempt a fluid drain and refill because I have no way of knowing when I've filled it too full or not full enough. How can I get an accurate reading of the tranny fluid level?

2nd - does the 1st gen SC4 have cabin air filtration/purification? If so, wheres the filter located?

    thanks.

Well I can tell you this I just had my done yesterday and I watched my mechanic thoroughly and it took him 4 1/2 quarts to fill mine i have a SC4 as well and the air filter is located in the left hand corner when you open the hood you cant miss it, its a black square looking box. Also have you changed your tranny mount yet if you havent done it I say do it if your going to attempt the trans flush the mount is right there.

  12. First i want to say thank GOD for this forum and thanks for all the great information that on here. But Anyway I changed my transmission mount today and man it felt like i was driving a brand new Lexus SC430 off the lot. No noise, very quiet, smooth just what a lexus should be like. I had the transmission oil drained and changed filter and gasket. I bought the T-Mount from Lexus for $74 bucks well worth it. I totally recommend anyone with a 1st generation Lexus if you havent had this done by now please get it done you will fall back in love with your SC.

  13. I need your help people, Today when I went to start my 93 Lex SC400 it made a loud humming noise and then when i moved the steering wheel left and to the right the noise became even louder. Now as the car warmed up the noised decreased and after i say 30-40 min of driving it was completely gone.

    Whatcha Think? :(

I think I would be checking out the Rack and Pinion and the PS pump for starters...good luck!!!

I totally agree after doing some research in the forum and totally hearing the noise is coming directly from the PS Pump and after jacking the car up and getting under the hood the rack is leaking a little so I'm just going to replace both.
