  1. The bulb size for the 8 or so that illuminate the gauge "dials" is 286, also known by T5. The bulbs for the little "door open" or "high beam" icons is a smaller type bulb.

You'll need an LED bulb replacement with several LED's firing in different directions, sometimes called "360 degree". And they should all have built in resistance designed for 12V.

I should caution that many of the LED bulbs out there aren't "actually" designed for most car applications, as most bulbs in cars can receive voltages as high as 14.5V, depending on the cars battery charge and alternator function. Try to find an LED bulb with a built in voltage regulator and heat sinking to help with overheating.

Also, make sure the "LED" part of the bulb is NO wider than an actual bulb, as the hole in the cluster may not be large enough for some LED bulbs to fit through.

And LED's are polar, meaning the positive and negative sides must match with the positive and negative leads from the cluster. So if you put an LED bulb in the cluster and it doesn't work, just remove it, rotate it 180 degrees and put it back in, and it should work.

    Good luck!

Very helpful info! Thank you very much!!!!! ill update with pictures as soon as i do it..

  2. I keep seeing in diffrent Lexus forums of people changing their dash cluster lights with color LEDs but they never acually make it clear what sizes it takes! i took my cluster apart and looked at the bulbs and their are 2 diffrent size bulbs but all i want to change is the main part of the cluster i think i saw on a forum its 8 bulbs that are the main ones and those are the bigger bulbs...what is the exact size of those so i can order them in LEDs?? and is their anything i should worry bout? i saw on a thread someone put LEDs in and their cluster started smoking and melted the circuit ribbon..I plan on getting them already with resistors and im pretty sure i can get them with the plastic twist locks thats on the factory ones..i saw some on www.superbrightleds.com but still dont know the bulb size i need..any info would be great or pictures of your work! Thanks!

  6. Hey my name is Justin! I am a brand new member here at the Lexus Owners Club! I joined this club because, living in a dustbowl city in Canada has its negative impacts and little support for a guy trying to enjoy his passion in making his dream car, into a nice looking dream car! I do attent a car meet once a week. The meet is devided in clicks... The honda group, the nissan group, and so on. But i have yet to meet another human being that not only owns a Lexus in general, but shares a similar interest in the replenishment of older ones! As fun as it is walking and talking with other car owners, it would be nice once and a while to get sosme real input on my car other than, "yo man lower that thang and slap some 20's on it". My father is an American muscle kind of guy who was born and raised through the sixties and seventies so you can imagine how narrow minded he can be towards anything not American or "muscle" (even though I technically own one) Since purchasing the SC400, he rufuses to help me work on it or even show a glimps of interest towards it. Sooo i have turned over to this forum/community for the support of others who share this commonality with me. This post was intented to get myself out there and introduce myself! Sooner or later i will be posting pictures of my SC and will be looking forward to your fully honest opinions, good or bad! Im starting off on a clean slate with this car so you opinions and ideas matter!

    Thanks alot!

Id be glad to help you with some ideas! my sc400 is a work in progress as well!! let me know when you get some pictures up!

  7. That is what I was guessing. It was weird that both of them just went out at the same time??????

Is this a tough job to replace them?

Where is the best place to get them?

    Thanks for the reply!

Take it to your local muffler shop and just tell them you want them cut off..me personally would leave them off and just get new piping put in its place..SOME muffler shops wont leave the cats off cuz of all the smog crap..but just ask them..shouldnt be expensive unless you get them to put new cats back..

  8. 93 SC, found simple solution for the cluster needle lights going out. Used industrial grade photo luminescent vinyl, glow in the dark vinyl. Took dash apart in about 20 mins, easy removal, whole job about 40 mins, cut small strips of the vinyl and attached to needles with the 3M double backed adhesive. Works great, awaiting night time to see how well it does glow. It is high yellow in color so it makes seeing the needles during the day a lot better too. If anyone wants instructions on taking out dash cluster and photos or what it looks like just contact me. Be sure clean off backside of clear cover as it get really dusty on backside, well not clear but smokey. That company site is fotolum.com

My needles are out as well and its a pain to see at night..your idea is VERY good..never thought of that! i would like to change my lights in mine and make them blue...if you got any instuctions or the pictures showing how to take the dash apart to access that that would be GREAT im about afraid to even mess with it but it doesnt sound that bad to take apart..Thanks!

  9.
