  3. I was told i need a amp for my car. My radio works but i get no sound. I would get an after market one but it wont have the plugs that the stock one does. I really dont want to pay to get things rewired. So if anyone has one for sale let me know or where i can get one other then from lexus. I have a Nakamichi radio

  4. If it was me (i have a 91 w/ 175k so i still have miles to go) i'd get out and upgrade to the next body style (95&up). As good as they are other things will likely fail so your maintenance level (expense) will continue. It's all a matter of personal preference and whether you want to pay now (replace the car) or pay later (continued maintenance expense). Good luck.

yes i love the car i have but i've been thinking about upgrading too a 95&up selling my car as is or parting it out then puting in the diff to buy a newer one

  5. How much to put the engine in???

I priced your car on Edmonds (better then kelly, more of a true price).  In ruff condition with 350,000 miles and no options it is worth at least $5,000.00

In totally damadged condition it is at lest $4,000.00, so onless it is realy bent up. dented and trashed... I would say that if you can get it up and going for $1,000 to $1,500.00 why not.

What kind of shape is it in...

    inside and out??????

Inside the car is in ment shape. Blacked out clock i need an amp for the radio but thats it. Paint on the car is good and no dents and digs i think your right if i can get this fixed for around $2,000 i've made out good

  6. Nobody feels the way i do about lexus then the people here so thats why im comeing to you guys for help. I have a 93 LS400 that needs a engine the one in the car now has almost 300k . Im told im runin on only four good cylinders. So what should i do? I found an engine, used of course 4 $700. I would still have to find someone to put it in and it also comes with a 6months warranty. Should i go this route and try to save my lex. or spend $5-$6000 on another one? By the way what u guys think about the transmision. It feels strong now but should i be concerned about it.

  7. Im buying a GS 400/430 in feb but not sure which one to get or what year. What would help me is to know every thing about the nav/dvd. What year did lexus start this and in what model 400/430? Updateing the nav i hear some have a hard drive is that something hard to get updated or is it more a coast thing? i can get a real nice after market dvd/nav for $2300 thats with the labor but i would love the stock look of lexus. Thanks for any help

  9. The 430 has more torque over the 400 and is possibly the reason why e-shift was removed and the gearbox is slightly uprated. The 430 is also the face-lifted model and has many improvements over the older model.

This page lists the changes made to the face-lift models (2001 onwards):

Some of the things as UK specific like service intervals and trim levels so ignore those.

The 400 has an advantage on price due to it being older and if you want to modify the engine there are more parts available for the 400 over the 430.

thank you that's some good stuff to now.i'm thinking i'll go with the 400 but just saying i have a "Lexus GS 430" sounds so much better over 300/400

  10. Thank you very much SW03ES i've found about five GS that i'm looking at. Two are 430 and the other 3 are 400 i want blk/blk and i'm more into the power of the car so since there the same in that area i guess i'll go to the color. All are about the same year and miles and price. What year did the nav start because i was going to get this put in the car but if i could find one with it already i can save me some time and a few dollars. :)

  11. Now i have a 93 LS400 and i'm looking to add to my lexus family with a 99-02 GS. Im not sure is there a big change in the 400 & 430 model? I did not want the 300 because i want the 8 cylinders not the 6 because my LS as so much power and i wanted to stick with that. and what years could i find the navagation and does it come in both the 400 & 430? thank you all very much for your info.

  12. Maybe your serpentine belt is just worn out.  When they get old, they get glazed and when that happens they slip and squeel whiuh could cause your ps not to work momentarily and other lights like battery (indicating no charge) to come on.  Does your temp stay steady?

I was thinking about doning that but when i have a new belt on the noise is still there and its louder

  13. I was told i might need a new amp for my stock nakamichi system. I hear it can be found in the trunk behide the panel where the fuel tank is too the left of it. I looked and all i saw was a little black box so does this mean i dont have one or was i looking in the wrong place?

  14. Well you're not that far away from where I am.  If your batt light comes on, you might want to have it tested.  Walmart, pepboys advanced auto have testers.  if you can't your welcomed to bring it to where I work @ Jim Coleman Infiniti in Bethesda.

You should also check the Power Steering Fluid level, see it there's anything in there.

Start with those things first, and we'll take it from there.

I have a new batt just got it a few days ago. Since i had this problem i've been checking the power steering fluid and its always full.

  15. :cries: My LS needs help bad. I can understand if you guys cant help. I'm getting this loud squeaking noise the comes and goes sometime. It can last and half hour or more. I've been trying to figure this thing out for months. I've change the idle pulley because the bareings in it was bad. I thought that could cause the sound. I went to my local dealer they say it will take theam hours to find this out. At $98 an hour i cant afford that. Some times when i'm makeing turns my struning wheel locks up on me and the battery light will come on. I really want to fix this problem a.s.a.p with all the noise i make i'm giving the big lex a bad name :( I took of the belt and turned all pulleys by hand to see if i could here anything. Thought it was the fan clutch but i cant here anything. Then the air compressor can here something but not to sure. Can it make sounds like that if its locking up? I think thats why the wheel locks up on me and the battery light comes on cause it's slowing down the belt and stoping the other pulleys from turning at normal speed. One last thing can the power steering be going bad and makeing this loud squeaking noise? Thank you all for help if any. I would have took it to a shop to look at it a long time ago but i only have one car. I cant drop it off some where because i use my car to travel for my job. The labor cost to just find out what is wrong looks like it will cost me $250-$350 dollars. I till theam the car is a lexus and all the prices go up they think we all have money :) ounce again thinks for any help

  16. I think i need to replace my fan clutch. I'm getting some lound noise and i think thats where its comeing from. What i need to know is how hard is this to do. I've done alot of things on my car myself. I wanted to know has anybody here did theres by there self.Thinks for any advice i might get :)

  17. i have a 93 LS400 got a brand new alternator cheap at advance autos. Put it in myself it's something i did before on other cars. Its still an easy job for anybody.I think i paid $175-$200 some where in that range was $300 but but give theam your old one the will take money of the final price. One thing i almost did wrong DONT run a new alternator on a died or low battery. Make sure you have a good battery the place you buy your alternator from can charge the battery for you for free.

  18. What have you done to the car ever since you owned it? Does it seem like there are any areas that may need attention on this vehicle? Do you plan on working on your 93 yourself or is a repair shop going to do it for you?

I try to do the work myself. I think i might need a maf sensor trac light on and check engine light on.
