  1. When using my nav system built into the ES 350 is there a way to set preferences? I prefer to stay on highways and the system is always trying to take me onto side streets which is almost always longer. Is there a way to sey a preference to say "use highways"?

Any info would be appreciated this is a pain

Yeah, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Preferences can be set only for the SELECTED route. You have to actually pick a route before you can choose Preferences for it, or to Preview the animation. I don't think there is a place to set the preferences globally (but Garmin does :P ).

I think that's right. My Lexus navi system usually gives me three choices, shortest route, longest route, and most inconvenient route. I opt for the shortest route and hope that it gets me there, which us does 80% of the time. When Lexus claims that their navi system is the most advanced ever, they must not have looked at Garmin. But that is another topic! :D

The Lexus Nav system is not nearly as good as the system on our previous car, '06 Acura TL. Had we known of its deficiencies, we might not have gone with the Lexus. Personally, I couldn't imagine driving a new TL, but my wife really relies on a Nav system in her work (real estate).

  2. The phone connection works fine on my end, but the person I'm calling can't hear well or, in one case, not at all.

I hate to think I need to take this to the dealer, but it seems like it will be necessary.

Any chance there's an obvious fix to this? Re-pairing, for example. I will probably try that anyway.

I believe you can adjust your mike level. Check the manual as I am shure that I did that to mine in a LS460.

Thanks. I was wondering if that were possible. But I hadn't had a chance to check the manual.

  4. I know I'm a newbie here, but I wanted to share the experience. I have done a lot of research on the HS250h and had intended to try and get some information from owners on this forum before getting serious about it. That WAS my original motivation; however, things have changed.

Last night, I had a chance to drive a new Premium model HS250h in Maryland. It was a non-NAV system with few of the real high tech toys on it. I would have preferred to see one with the Tech Package.

BOTTOM LINE: Very unimpressive ride, limited trunk space and a real disappointing rear seat.

Yes, despite how great this car looked on paper, the real thing was underwhelming. For starters, I had also driven a 2010 Prius and had something to compare it to. Of course, having driven an RX300 for many years, it was a bit of a "Come Down" in luxury and ride.

The rear seat is only adequate for 4 people. Sitting in the center of the rear seat (e.g. as a 5th person) meant that your back was flush against the raised armrest -- and it is extremely HARD and uncomfortable. You would not want to take this car for a long trip and try to be the 5th person, child or adult.

The road noise was very much higher than an RX and the noise was noticeable. Such a shame in a car that had so much promise. It's more than just tire noise, the car needs insulation.

The trunk, while advertised to be pretty large and able to hold two sets of golf clubs or more, isn't all that large. Unless you have suitcases that are long and slender like golf bags, you're going to notice htis trunk isn't as big as you may need.

It's a beautiful piece of technology, but just falls short of the Lexus standard IMHO. Now it's time to rethink. Decided not to purchase one.

Just want to share this with you all so you make sure to test drive before placing a deposit. Caveat Emptor from a disappointed Lexus Owner.

  5. You can also buy much nicer carpet mats too. I bought a set of Lloyd Heavyweight mats for mine a few years ago and the carpeting is so plush they remind me of the sheepskin mats on a Rolls Royce. Really nice and they have hundreds of colors, they'll send samples and you can find something that will work well with the interior.

Those look great. Glad to know that option is out there. Thanks.

  6. You have set the NAV at top or near top volume level.

Unlike other systems, the unit does not lower radio volume.

That and not being able to imput on the fly really stinks.

I guess I can live with the volume issue.

I didn't know that I can't input while moving. There have been lots of times when the passenger would input the information while we are moving. If we are not able to do that, it is a really serious disappointment.

The car doesn't have 100 miles on it yet, which is why I didn't know this already.

  7. Yeah, those are not the OE mats....Just keep bugging your dealer until they arrive. B)

I called the Lexus Customer Experience number at 800-255-3987 and they advised that the carpet-like mats that I got for my new 2010 Lexus 350 are the "correct" ones and that the plastic ties were added only as a temporary precaution until further notice. But the point is that they are saying that *is* the mat I should be getting, so I don't know what you mean by "OE mats". I told them that the charcoal colored mats are totally wrong for the parchment/tan/beige interior. It should instead be a dark tan or dark brown color to complement the interior colors. They said they will check for me if an alternate color exists and will contact me early next week. I think, at the end, I will get rid of these tacky carpet-like mats and replace them with the all-weather mats.

Our salesman told us the gray mats were the OEM mats meant for our parchment interior. He said that they were supposed to match the charcoal at the top of the dash. Despite the reasoning, they look terrible. We took them out ASAP and replaced with Weathertech tan mats. The color isn't perfect, but it's better than gray. Front mats fit o.k., the rears don't seem to have any relation to the space they're in. Despite this, we don't regret the decision, since new all-weather mats from Lexus are not available. Given the weather, we had no time to wait.

  8. We had a Nav system on a previous car that would organize multiple destinations into a logical route, e.g. closest to the starting point first, then the next closest, etc. The Lexus system will let you change the order, but the sequence seems entirely up to the inputer. Any suggestions about how to arrive at a logical route w/ the Lexus system using Route Overview or a display that shows all of the distances for each destination? I can see from the manual that these might be helpful, but haven't tried them yet.

On our previous system the audio system would automatically lower its volume when the Nav voice gave a direction. Is this possible with the Lexus system? I've read the manual and don't see anything but general volume control.

I'd appreciate any info on either issue.

    John
