  1. Ok all Lexus Guru's

I have two problems with my newly bought LS430 (2003). It turns out the car was hit on the left side from the driver's door to the passenger door. I can tell because I can pick up re-painted parts very quickly.

    Problem #1:

Taillamp failure light comes on with I turn the headlights on.

    1. Probably a problem with the luggage computer box (this is were the sensor is?) Is there a way to loop the signal to "fool" the sensor.

    2. Where the heck is the ground screw for this system? Each socket just has clips to hold in the bulb.

    Problem #2

Last week it rained all day, I just noticed that the back passenger carpet was soaking wet - I mean splash, splash wet. Where is this water coming from? The plugs on the sheet metal are in place and tight.

I'm gonna tackle one problem at a time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do like the ride of the car, but these little problems are driving me nuts.

    Thanks

  2. Hi All, have spent my lunch hour reading posts about this problem. Seems like there is a lot of discussion about alternators and the wiring on the hinge of the trunk ... question, is that wiring still something to check on a 2003? I know it's there for the older models.

When my headlights are off, I get no warning light. The minute I turn my headlights on, I get the "Tail light failure" warning on the instrument panel. All my tail lights are illuminated.

I have no idea if I have OEM bulbs or not, just had 2 replaced by the local Toyota dealer (took 2 trips ... grrr) .. you'd think they'd at least look at them after replacing the bulb ... sigh.

So, is the recommended procedure the following:

    - double check all lamps .. including one in the back window

    - replace all bulbs with OEM bulbs

    - check for corrosion and clean sockets

    - check for correct voltage (12.5 amps)? Can I use a volt-meter for that?

    - check wiring box in truck hinge (if option for my year)

    - check alternator

Did you ever find the solution for this problem... I got the same issue. All the bulbs are good. I checked 50 times already. I cleaned the sockets, and checked the voltage (getting about 12.15V). I checked the light in the back window as well. I chnged all other lights. Still have the taillamp failure sign.

Is there any way to loop this so that it "fools" the sensor.

    Other ideas?

Even with the troubles so far, I *love* my "new" car. :D It was on sale, after all.

    Thanks so much guys!

  3. Have you checked the center high mounted stoplight? That drove me NUTS for weeks until i figured it out. Also make sure all the bulbs are seated properly; I had one actually pop out. The should click into place. Also check fuses maybe?

Thanks for the relies. As for the first comment, the light stays on after starting the car, it does not go away until I turn off the lights, manually.

For the second comment - I thought the stoplight mounted in the back only comes on when I step on the brake? The failure light comes on as soon as I turn the lights on, WITHOUT steping on the brake. So I am assuming that this is related to only the taillights and not the brake lights. Am I correct in assuming this?

    Brothers and partners in crime,

Just bought a 2003 LS430. I really enjoy driving the car; its my first Lexus. Must say, the engine and car is ultra quiet when compared to my old infiniti Q45. However, the LS has a problem that is annoying the s$*t out of me. At night, as soon as I start the engine, the taillamp failure light comes on the dash with the red exclamation mark. I don't need to step on the brake for this to happen, so its one of the taillights that's causing the failure light.

I changed EVERY bulb in the back, inclduing the turn signals making sure that it is the right wattage for the job. All bulbs are high quality from Autozone. Every single light is lite up in the back, I verified this maybe 50 times already. The sign still comes on. I measured the voltage at the taillights, all are reading at 12.15 volts.

Interesting point - the light does NOT come on if I turn the key to the start position, only when I crank and start the engine, does the warning come on.

I can't figure this out. Someone else must have had this problem - how do I fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.

  5. I have a 03 ls 430 and my ac drain tubes are clogged. DOes anyone know where they are are at so I can clean them out? I looked around underneath and did not see them? Thanks

I have the same problem. The rear carpet on the passenger side is soaking wet! It so wet that if you were to stomp your feet you would hear a slat slat sound. That much water cant come from a leaking seal... no way. Where are these AC drain tubes?

Any help would be much appreciated
