I just did a ebay search for

"Lexus 6 disc CD magazine"

and it came up with a whole bunch of hits. Looks like as cheap as $10, up to $25, plus shipping.

I've had good luck buying them off ebay, if you want to save a few bucks. It is most likely the 6 disc Panasonic kind, that is the same for the GS/LS and other models too.

It would be cheaper on eBay than at the dealer, or you can go calling local junkyards to see if any wrecked Lexuses come in that still have the CD magazine intact.

good luck! If you run into a lot of trouble, I have an extra one I might be willing to part with. We just returned our RX300 (the lease was done) and it had 2 magazines. I put one in the car when we returned it for the next owner, and kept the extra.

You know about the little refridgerator in the middle of the backseat? Well, it's an option, so your car may not have it. It doesn't actually cool drinks down well, but if you have a cold drink already, and place it in there, and go on a long trip, it keeps the drinks cold for quite a while. Only works well on long road trips, cuz...someone's kinda gotta be sitting back there to hand you the drinks, you know? Another cool option is the massage in the back seats, it vibrates and feels pretty good.

I like the fact that the rear passengers can control the radio, there's a little display on the middle armrest for it.

And the voice control thing is freaking amazing. I love being able to say "volume up" or "track up" to control the stereo, and it does other things too. Talking to your car, so Knight Rider.

The motor vehicle laws would vary from state to state, but I believe that in most states it is illegal to run in-dash dvd or tv. I think this is why a lot of them have the lock-out function when the parking brake is not on.

This is only a problem if you get caught. :)

Hi Kingkong, non of the buttons are "The" programming button. Each button can work a differant gate or garage door opener. Let me know if you need more help. B)

I'm playing at the new course here in SoCal Arroyo Trabuco on Thursday, and Canyon Crest Country Club out in Riverside on Friday. I'm living in Garden Grove now, about 1 mile south of Disneyland, where golf as well as gas is freaking expensive.

About the garage door opener -

I know there are three buttons that can be programmed on the homelink in the car. I'm talking about the programming button that you refer to on the garage door opener - what is that? My garage door opener says Genie Security+, is this the rolling code kind? If not, I guess I should be able to program it pretty easily, I just picked up the 1998 GS 400 and don't have the instructions on how to do it.

My mechanic told me it was because I needed more transmission fluid. I think before I owned the car, the previous owner may have used random transmission fluid instead of the Lexus approved kind. Supposedly this causes harsh shifting (but like these other posts, I only notice it when cold, and coming out of park, it shifts smoothly between the other gears while running)

ahhh which button on my garage door opener is the programming button? I've been having problems with this, but didn't know it was because of the rolling code.

We just bought our house last October, and it came with one of those Genie RC openers. I can't seem to get it to work with the homelink system. I have no problem getting the security gate code to work, probably because I don't have to worry about a rolling code.

I'm with you Pigzrule, I just picked up a 98 GS400 last night. I love this car! It seems a bit quicker than the 97 LS400 I've been driving, and a lot faster/smoother than the 2001 RX300 my wife has.

The only big issue I have with it right now is that the Navigation system has stuff on it from 1998. It's missing the street I live on! (my house is 3 years old, brand new tract). Any way to upgrade it without spending an arm and a leg?

IMHO turning your SC400 into a dream car would take more than just worrying about the performance. Maybe I'm getting old (just turned 31) but sheer speed isn't necesssarily what it's all about. Sure, tune it up, add your turbos and HID's, but how comfortable are you INSIDE the car when you're driving?

I'd spend some money getting custom components put into the car. Have the audio shop put in some new speakers, a custom sub, and extra power to run everything. The DVD player, big monitor and maybe an XBox if you really got the dough to spend. If you're into fast and furious stuff, and some neon lighting all around to complete the look (I wouldn't do it to my car, but YMMV).

That way you'd have a fast car that was fun to be inside :)

Sorry I'm too late on the reply, I just joined the LOC forum 10 minutes ago. About 3 years ago I had a 92 SC400 with the same problem. It was a sweet ride, but there was the noise and the rough bumpiness while driving on smooth pavement. Because of the uneven tire wear from the rear as well, replacing the suspension really did the trick.

Mine was more expensive though, had the autoshop do the whole thing and it came out to about $550

There is a Costco less than a mile from my house, so I usually get gas there. It is cheaper than any of the other gas stations in the area by about 5 or 6 cents/gallon. I've used it regularly without any problems so far, YMMV. I think the Costco Gas is fine.

The Costco Gas station near my house is always crowded though. Usually very long lines to save those 5 or 6 cents. Living so close, I can go during off hours and it's better. The only thing I don't like is that I have to remember to bring my Costco card, and an ATM card because they don't take credit cards. They don't take cash either. I'll usually run into the Costco to get some pizza while I'm there, that stuff is good!
