  1. When was the last SC430 made? Does Lexus plan on reintroducing or have they just switched to the I series.

Also, was there ever a permanent, non telescoping antennas made for the SC's??

About every other car in the world has a permanent mounted low style antenna.

  2. The glass/plastic display covers on my 2002 clmate control and radio are getting spotty from the inside and am wondering if anyone has ever changed theirs.

I took the sharp corner of a razor blade, pryed at the corner and the plastic cover came out very easily and yes it was dirty on the inside. A little Windex and replaced it. There was enough adhesive left on the unit itself to hold it in place very nicely. Now the display is bright and clear.

  3. Just bought new tires, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, for my 02 SC 430 and so far they are GREAT. So glad to be off the run flats… Question, I have heard when changed from RF to regular tires that a wheel alignment and checking the toe on the rear tire is a must? Has anyone else heard/done this?

Also bought new rear Michelins and the cars rear caster alignment will be put to as close to zero degrees as possible. This will reduce tire wearout on the inside tread.

Already talked to the garage and they said they can do it if they have enough adjustment to work with. I'll be happy with around a half a degree.

  4. Well, my wife and I got our new Es350 last week. What a beauty. The truffle exterior and charcoal interior. Have 435 miles on it when my wife came home upset and showed me the what looks like a bullet dent in the rear passenger door. She said she heard it but thought a rock had come from the road and hit underneath. I'm kind of saddened also because this was not a rock. It happened on a country road with only woods and a few houses on the right side. 6 inches higher and it would have got the window.

Oh well, I've got to find a good Paint and Ding person.

  5. Here is a link to a LA Times article from 10/18/09.

    http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-toyo...2642,full.story

It states: One possible remedy is to redesign the accelerator pedal to make it harder to get caught by a floor mat, he said. Another potential fix, he said, involves reprogramming the engine's computer to automatically cut power when a driver brakes while the gas pedal is depressed.

I still don't think redesiging the floor mats is the solution because 10 years from now someone buying the vehicle (used) could potentially install a type of floor mat that could duplicate the problem.

My new 2010 ES350 has the front drivers carpet attached to the bottom carpet with those plastic ties like holds new socks together. I cut them off so I can remove the carpet for cleaning.

  6. Got mine delivered today. Truffle Mica, Parchment Leather, UL Package. Dealer was pushing hard for me to get some "Super Polysteel PLATINUM Protection" which supposedly protects against Fading, Chalking, Loss of Gloss, Acid Rain.. etc. for $599. I declined it. Anyone have any opinions on if it was worth it?

We got our Truffle/Mica with a charcoal interior 3 days ago. I drives and handles very well. Our last Lexus was a 2002 LS430 and our 350 is as quiet and comfortable as was the 430 except the 430's ride was smoother.

  7. I went through alot of the archived notes on navigation but I did not come across an answer to my question.

What is the latest version disc number for a 2002 model year sc430 that will install and not cause problems ?

I think mine is an original because alot of newer streets are not indicated. I just want to install the latest version possible without causing all of the problems I read about in the archives.

    Thank you

  8.

Need to replace my tires on a 2002 SC 430. Thinking about going to non-RFT. Anyone using non-RFTs? If so, happy with your choice of manufacturer and decision to go non-RFT? Manufacturer name? Anyone using less than the "Z" rated tires recommended by Lexus?

I replaced mine with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 's. Great improvement in ride. Handles like a normal car, no longer rides stiff and hard. :)

I also put on the PS2's but I have a little more "roadnoise" than I would like. A slight thumping sound at 20mph, then it seems to go away or maybe the thump is now at a much higher rpm and seems to go away. I'm not so sure I don't have a bad tire.

  9. I replaced the timing belt on my 03 myself, but then I do all my mechanic work. Would not recommend it for the average tinkerer....

My first replacement was at 120k and the belt looked fine, the car now has 205k and I will probably replace again at 250K. The timing belts on these cars are much wider and stronger than most timing belt engines. When you decide to have it replaced, go to the Toyota dealer or a local garage, which is much much cheaper....

    Thank you for the info

  10. Hi, I'm a new member with a new(new to me) 2002 - SC430.

In looking through the owners maintenance manual, I see the timing belt should be replaced at 90,000 miles. Mine has 80,000 on it and am wondering whether or not this should be done on schedule, how much will it cost and what happens if the old one fails while the engine is running.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.
