  1. I have rebuild the solenoids on a lot of Toyotas. If you've got a buddy that's halfway mechanical, take your starter out and get him to clean/replace the copper contacts and ring on the solenoid.

I've never had to replace the metal. Everytime I shimmed/filed/sanded the contacts, the starter ended up outlasting the car.

A rebuild kit should only be $20-40 and that'll come with new contacts, bearing, bushes, etc.... but again this is work for somebody pretty mechanical.

    Good luck,

    Aaron

Anyone have the part number on that starter rebuild kit for the sc300?

  2. I may need a new starter :cries: on my '93 SC300. Getting a clicking noise occasionally on startup. Going to check all connections today. If thats not the problem then I probably will need a starter. I checked out this sight http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/ipb/w...=F∂=Starter and found 2 types of rebuilt staters

    1. Bosch for $104 with $75 core charge

    2. Denso for $140 with $40 core charge

Has anyone used either of these?

Does anyone know the part numbers for the rebuild kit? Thnx

  3. will the jet work for the ls400? i would also love to shift a bit higher around 7000rpm... can jet do that?

As far as I know the reprogarmming of the ECU has no effect on shift point or any other transmission functions, For details contact www.jetchip.com

  4. I am wondering about their ECU upgrades... i mean $1250 for an ECU is super expensive... no mail order tuning can do what i can do here with my wideband unit and tuning.. I tune locally GM cars as they have programmable ECMs since 94.

I have tuned over 20rwhp over mail order tuning from reputable people. Fact is that they do not live here and the heat, octane, etc varies... I would love to get into the pcm part for these cars as i feel they do a crappy job...

but... if its the only way to go for good performance on stock things well... it "may" be worth it... i guess its better to go with the programable aftermarket computer.

I don't think they do anything more then Jet does on their reprogarmming, and Jet charges under $500. I spoke to both of them and couldn't find a difference-I am about to have Jet do mine (SC300 2000)-Actually you can go through Summit and have the Jet programming done even cheaper.

  5. I have a 2000 SC300 that I am in the process of rerouting the snorkel intake from behind the bumper to the opening in the bumper just below the original loacation. I cut the end of the snorkel where it terminated behind the bumper and added some fabricated tubing and increasing the new inlet size to match the opening in the bumper. Seems like it should help bring "forced" cold air in.? Any thoughts on this mod?

  6. So I had my front bumper of (2000 SC300) for some paint touchup. Decided to take a look at how the air intake worked. Well the intake snorkel terminates in back of the top part of the bumper. Seems to me that if I cut about 4" off the front of the snorkel, make a new bracket and add some tubing I can reposition the front of the snorkel to the slot in the bumper next to lower lights and get cold air forced thru the snorkel. Seems like an easy way to get some fresh air to the intake. Am I missing something. A few guys I have seen here have built these BFI boxes, they seem to be quite a bit of work compared to what I am going to do. Is there that much of difference in air intake?

  7. While cleaning my car the other day and trying to get yellowing off lenses, after trying all the different pollishes and cleaners I had, I noticed a liitle product I had not used in years call "GEL-GLOSS" its a fibergalss, marble and acrylic cleaner. I thought I would give it try on those yellow lenses, and to my surprise it took the yellowing away and I didn't even have to rub hard, I dont know if they still make it but if anyone is interested I will post all the info I have. Good Luck.

  8. Yes I am aware of the ability to manual downshift, but my '93 does not require manual downshifting, it does a great job on its own. I can get my 2000 to downshift more agresively it just requires more gas pedal, trying to understand why they shift so differently, seems like there must be some way to adjust this. I have had other cars in the past (Chevy) that are very easy to make these adjustments through the transmission linkage.

  9. I have owned both sc300 & sc400 and tho it is true if you compare 1/4 mile times (full out excelleration in other words) the 400 is quicker. However I have found that in around town driving under normal excelleration my 300 "FEELS" quicker.

  10. Well I have 2 sc300's. one is a 2000 and one a 1993. The '93 is much quicker then the 2000. Can't figure out why. Seems to mostly be a more agressive trany that is accounting for the difference. As far as mileageb I get about 20 avg on the 1993 (the quicker one). I am still trying to figure out if the trany shifting is adjustable or programable.
