  1. I have a 1999 lx470 and my rear heat will not get hot. when you slide the rear heat controller to hot it will never get warm, it always blows cold air. I really need this working. it gets cold in the very back seat for the kids. I pulled out the overhead rear control unit , thinking it might have a cable attached to it going to a damper to control the hot and cold but the unit is all electronic and has only wires. I do not have a repair manual. Maybe some one can help. Thanks for your time!

I have attached a section of the 2004 TLC wiring diagram that might provide some guidance.

  2. Found this thread a bit late! Has anyone thought about actually cutting the output wire so that there is no signal from the DVD player to the head unit? I wonder if that would fool the head unit to believe the DVD player is never on, and that would allow one to run video to a rear monitor with impunity. I realize you'd never be able to listen to CDs again, but who cares in this iPod world? The only question is if this would also disable the feed from the Nav DVD player...

If you cut the wire (TX+, TX-) that senses the DVD player, you may get a "No External Device Connected" message. I think you need the signal from the head unit to enable the DVD player to continue playing the DVD.

It may be more advantageous to prevent the video mute signal from activating. This signal is internal to the Pioneer XDV-M8106 that is in my 2002 LX470.

  3. I was reviewing the electrical schematic for the OEM Pioneer (XDV-M8106) 6 CD/DVD Changer that is installed in my 2002 LX470. There is a signal (XVMUTE) that controls IC3301 (8 pin IC) that disables video out of the changer. I believe the control signal (from TX +/-) determines when to cut out the composite (COMPOUT) video signal from continuing to the display.

In order for rear aftermarket video displays to continue to show video, either the comp signal must be accessed (@pin 26 of CN3961 connector) prior to this point or the XVMUTE signal must be disabled. I plan on trying this in the next several weeks. My son is in a basketball tournament in Vegas this weekend, so maybe next weekend.

By the way, I just installed an overhead display (includes a DVD player and headphones) that displays the LX changer video only when parking brake is on (I have not bypassed XVMUTE yet). For rear seat viewing only, the DVD can be played on its own player and sound is transmitted thru FM signal to LX radio.

  4. Please help. My ML cd changer does not work. The DV

d player is in the back and works fine. However the CD player (in middle console) says "error" when I attempt to play a CD. Dealership wants to charge me $1,600.00 to replace. Any heroes out there?

If it is a Pioneer system, you can send it to them for flat rate repair of $175. Call 1-800-PIONEER (1-800-746-6337). That's what they quoted me for a changer from a 2002 LX, but not ML. Otherwise, start doing some troubleshooting.

Did it suddenly fail one day? Had it been working on and off and now won't work? Did it get wet? Do you get the same message irrespective of # and location of inserted CDs? Have you tried different CDs?

If you can get the manufacturer model #, you may be able to get the manual on the system that should have error codes. Go to 911manuals.com for a list and pricing. I have a Pioneer XDV-M8106ZT DVD/CD Changer that shows the changer error codes.

    Good Luck!

  5. I have a replacement changer, Leave yopur Email if still interested.

I am also looking for an OEM CD/DVD Changer. I have a 2002 LX470 with stock (not ML) CD/DVD Changer. I may have damaged the unit trying to locate video out to connect to rear aftermarket video player. It does not recognize cd or dvd discs in positions 1-3 (grayed out), only 4-6. There is no activity when pressing any of 4-6 buttons on-screen. The OEM unit is a Pioneer XDV-M8106. Pioneer (800-pioneer) wants $175 for repair.

Note: All other electronics ( including Nav system) are still working properly.

    Thanks for your help.

Will see if I have one for you.

I was able to get my DVD changer working again. It appeared to be a mechanical issue where disc #1 was not being read since the disc holder was not being mechanically accessed properly. I purchased the LX470 at the end of August, changer was working, then stopped working within a few days. The changer hadn't been used prior to that for quite some time (>6 months). I think it had lost lubrication causing the movement of the disc holder to behave erratically. I was able to move the holder while holding the dvd door sensor closed.

Anyway, thanks for the offer of the OEM unit. Hopefully, the one I have will continue to operate.

  6. I have a 2005 LX470. I left the sunroof open one day and it rained hard! Since then my radio controls for the rear passengers (the control panel on the rear of the center counsel) don't work, they don't seem to have power to them. And the 6 disk changer in the center counsel doesn't work. When I push CD on the radio panel a message comes up on the navigation screen, "External Device Not Connected". HELP!!!! If you have any ideas or a similar problem let me know. I would love to listen to cds again. Thanks!

I have a 2002 LX470, where I disconnected the CD/DVD Changer. I get the same message. The Changer has a cable coming out of it extending ~ 20" and mates to a cable that goes up behind the dash. The connector (18 pin) is located underneath the center console section. This is where I disconnected the cable from the CD/DVD Changer. It is possible you have a bad connection due to the water ingress. I would suggest accessing the connector and cleaning the contacts.

The connector for the rear radio controls are also located in the same general area. You will have to remove the trim piece that houses the rr control and cup holder.

  7. Hi - newb here. Just joined the forum after recently purchasing a pre-certified 2004 LX470. Love it so far, but I'm already having Navigation problems similar to the ones described by the original poster. When I start the car, half the time the "I Accept" screen comes on and all functions work properly and other times an "Audio Off" screen displays. The "Audio Off" screen is usually followed by either a "Check System Error" or "External System Not Connected". Or I get some combination of all three aforementioned screens one after another. All of the controls through the Nav screen are frozen once the error messages appear and then eventually become available after driving for 3-5 minutes.

One of the posters above mentioned a TSB for this issue - I've been unable to find it online. Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance!

I have a 2002 LX470. I disconnected the CD/DVD Changer (to identify video out signal for rear video display) and get the "External System Not Connected" message. Although this message is for the Changer, I would expect a similar or same message for other intermittent or loose connections. It is possible that there is a bad connection within one or more connectors. I would suggest inspecting the connectors between the NAV system and the cable going to the dash unit. I expect the connector would be under the seat where the NAV system is located.

  9. Sorry if this has been covered before but my search skills are blah... anyways long story short after hooking up my trailer to the lx470 I had some odd electrical issues. I didn't make the connection at the time but basically while testing the lights only the right turn signal would work properly. The left turn signal would flash once, and the brake lights just did not work at all. Hazards also only flashed once.

Car was working great before, no flaws or problems at all, so I knew it was the trailer or the electrical harness on the trailer (I've towed other trailers before and they've worked fine with the lexus as well). I'm pretty sure this has to do with the fact that someone sideswiped the rear left brake light assembly probably causing a short with the left signal/left brake light.

Oddly enough this somehow killed the brake light switch as I no longer have any brake lights and can't shift out of park. Easy fix (I hope it's just the brake switch, the fuse next to the drivers kickpanel for the brake lights seem fine, didn't see any smoke either), but that made me wonder, are the tow package electrics just straight hooked up to the brake & signal lights? I thought these systems are usually isolated in some way.

The brakes and lights are connected to the 7 pin socket (T12) through several relays (towing converter relay T15, towing hitch relay T23) and the towing brake controller T18. I don't know how to add an image of the actual schematic. These numbers are from a 2004 Land Cruiser Electrical Wiring Diagram, but match my 2002 LX470.
