My daughter ran her 1997 Lexus ES300 out of gas and now it won't stay running.  It will run for about 12 miles before shutting down.  Then if we leave it for about 3 hours it will go again.

Any thoughts about what might be wrong?  Fuel pump? Relay? Filter?
