used car try to find a gx around $7k in so-cal

Hi, I am a student trying to get a gx470 with in 200k miles. Only $7k in hand, live in LA, anyone can give me some advice on where to get one and issues that I need to be aware of.

I take a look at craigslist, and meet up someone who owns a lx470 2002 model. He is firm on 7k, but the engine is very loud, lack of power and oil is leaking to the bottom.

Although I checked its carfax, 2nd owner, still....

If your a student, you shouldn't be buying a Lexus. The maintenance is going to be expensive. Why not buy a more practical vehicle that doesn't cost much to maintain.

and if a vehicle is leaking and making unusual noises,  please don't buy it

I will graduate soon, so trying to find a off road SUV for fun. Gx lx and 4 runner are my top choices. I did some simple mechanics such as oil change, neutral switch change and brake pads change etc. but hard to find a decent condition gx around 7000
