JACEMAN99 Posted October 13, 2011 Share Posted October 13, 2011 Car: 1999 Lexus GS400 Miles: 188,000 Diagnostic Codes: P0440, P0441, & P0446 The car runs fine and these codes came up. I have a exaust smell and a swooshing sound (sound seems to come from behind dash). Sounds almost like fluid moving around. I am not sure if this issue is correlated with the codes. A local Lexus dealer said I need a new canister for $800.00 + labor. I have not done any other test besides the Advance Auto diagnostic tool previously mentioned. I know the labor is reasonable due to the complex location of the canister. I want to avoid a new canister if possible. I know the P0440 is general EVAP Emission Control System Malfunction. P0441 is EVAP Emission Control System Purge Flow. P0446 Emission Control System Vent Circuit Malfunction. Other than that I am clueless. I did get a brand new gas cap but the light never went off. What other test can I do to isolate the issue? Do I need a smoke test to check for leaks or breaks? Where do I Get one from? Do I need to clean some type of filter or valve? can I just replace hoses or valves: which ones and where can I buy these from? Also does anyone know a way to get cheaper canister for this car?
