Brake Problems/failures With Gx?

Has anyone else had brake failures in the GX470? We have a 2008, and it's breaks have failed twice while backing up (and had some issues going forward as well. After 70 days, Lexus finally gave us our car back with a form letter saying it was fine. No brake failure--must have made it up. Funny, the breaks feel very different now.

Not a failure, but a friend of mine is a Lexus tech and he said the front shims are known to wear(rust?) out causing a low pedal. Also, front calipers often need to be rebuilt.
