Driver Side Window

So...

The Driver side window works very weakly and make a struggling rusty mechanical noise. There isn't enough juice for it two roll down more than an inch... so i'm afraid to use it.

The question is this:

Is it advisable for me to try and replace the power window motor and actuator? I mean, it's kinda of difficult to work within the door panels, and i have an expensive ceramic tint on the car, that i don't want to scratch.

Thoughts and feedback??

thx

Is it advisable? I think so, it's pretty easy, at least to get the panel off.

These should help:

I believe there is a salvage yard (or two) in the metro Phoenix area. If you can find one with the parts you need, you can practice on it first.

You might get lucky and just clean up the one you have and re lubricate it. The fact that the motor works at all is a good sign. Maybe the lube has dried out and mechanism is binding (corroded metal on metal).

Toyota liked to use the same motor throughout their lineup, you can find a replacement unit from numerous other 90s model Toyotas in salvage yards or buy a reman unit at most auto parts places for no more than $60. There's an application listing somewhere online I found that lists all the models that share the motor.

Replacement is very easy to do and you do not have to pull the glass, just unbolt and raise it up out of the way.
