wuzzy1 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Greetings friendly gang members: I recently changed my alternator and now the odometer is not working. Does the 3 prong plug that goes into the alternator affect the odometer? I broke off the plastic clip when I removed it, and when I replaced it I just pushed it in all the way (I like the sound of that)! What does that 3 prong plug do? Many thanks! wuzzy1

The connector into the alt. provides the field coil current for regulation. You most likely bumped or disturbed another connection while working on the alt. Or it is pure coincidence and a sensor has failed. I am a bit perplexed as to why the odo would not work, yet the speedometer works? Please clarify. Also, what year do you own?
