Sooder Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 What's up guys, I'm Sudhir(aka Sooder), I recently started maintaining my old man's LS400. Let's just say, it started with the timing belt and it has been a pain staking process. My reason for joining the forums, is due to the fact that alot of information is posted on here that I couldn't get from a dealer before giving up an arm and a leg. I work for a stealership and even I can't get a break. No modifications have been done to it, bare stock. However, I do want to give it a bit life. It looks dull at the moment. Recent maintenance: 1. Spark plugs 2. Spark plug wires 3. Distributor caps & rotors 4. Timing belt, Water pump, Crankshaft and Camshaft seal 5. Crankshaft sensor Just wanted to make a welcome thread, and say what's up to all of the Lexus owners on here.
landar Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Welcome aboard Sooder! For what kind of stealership do you work and what is your job?
Sooder Posted November 30, 2009 Author Posted November 30, 2009 Thanks for the welcome Landar. I work at Koons Ford. Now I got problems with my polished !Removed!. On initial start up, it will start but will not hold idle. However, if I were to give it some gas it will idle. Unfortunately, it will idle sporadically. Anywhere between 0-2,000rpms, and at this point I have no idea what to do. At first, it will idle at 2,000rpms steadily. I replaced the ECT sensor, as well as both ignition coils. That cured the concern for a short time. Now, it idles crazy, smells like gas out the exhaust, also when in drive theres no power whatsoever. Check engine light would come on, however I can't read the codes because both the DLC(data link connector) won't respond. I've checked fuses, relays, and nothing. I tried to see whether I can get the CEL to blink, but that doesn't work either. I know the O/D light and the CEL is suppose to blink together, but that doesn't seem to work at all. Any help at this point would be appreciated, before I throw a grenade under the hood and throw it off a bridge.
landar Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Well, lets start with basics, like what year is your LS400 and how many miles and a little background on the car. At first you made me think of the ICV(Idle Control Valve) but that may or may not be your problem. Do a search on this forum for the ICV and see if symptoms are similar to yours
curiousB Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I would bet either or both of: dirty and sticking IACV (idle air valve) dirty throttle body and throttle plate search this forum for cleaning instructions. Should be a snap for a professional.
Sooder Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 background: 1993 LS400 135700miles Recent maintenance: water pump/ timing belt plugs+wires+cap+rotor crankshaft+camshaft seal ect sensor ignition coils valve cover gaskets I cleaned the throttle body already, when I did the valve cover gaskets. IAC Valve, checked it and didn't seem to be dirty or sticking for that matter. I've searched the forums in regards to stick IAC Valves, however the symptoms don't seem to match. At this point, from what I've attempted to describe are either a fuel problem or ECM problem.
