intron
As mentioned before, I bought a 93 es300 this April. I failed in the emission test. There's too much CH & NO. I'd like to know how hard to get this problem fixed, usually how much. I live in Bethesda, MD. Which mechanics are better for such repair? Thanks a lot. SRA
Hi, I have a 93 ES 300 and had the same problem about a month back. The emission inspection person i took it to was not the regular place i normally go to. This guy sent me out with a failed emission and I ended up spending $200 for a fuel injection service that he did for me and at the last minute talked me into adding some additive which hiked up the initial estimate. Then finally when i re-tested it, after driving the car around as he told me to, i still did not pass the emissions. So the same day I took it to the regular person i go to, and my car did pass the emission test without any change. I suspect the emission's inspector did some funny things not sure what. I would recommend u take it to a known emissions person where u have had a good experience before. That being said, you can try to find out at this site how to clean your fuel injector and throttle which may help. In my case it was just a terrible emissions inspector who was the problem. Hope this helps.
intron
THANKS SRA! I went to a VEIP station in Gaithersburg. This is the first time for me to go for emission test. I dont know if that guy is professional.
blk_on_blk
It's the MAF and O2 sensors that have the most effect on your emissions, not so much the fuel injectors unless they are seriously faulty. The MAF is easy in that you can pull it out and spray-clean it with some automotive electronic spray cleaner (available from any local parts store)... just don't touch the sensors or try to wipe them down or anything; spray the sensors clean and let them air dry. If you're not passing emissions, the first thing I would do is clean the MAF.
intron
I went to a mechanic shop. They told me that the car need new spark plug and EGR modulator. The price for changing them is ~$250. Is this price OK?
