Wangan Es250
i've searched, so forgive me if this question has been answered over and over, but i own a 90 es250 with a blown transmission, i was wondering if the "box" style camry (around the same years) share the same transmission as the es, since junkyard swaps are easier. also, I'm a little confused because of the "ect" button on my console (if it has anything to do with the engine or transmission), and if there is anything i need to change around. thanks, josh
powerwave
you can use a transmission from an 87-91 camry but it has to be a *v6* engine. the trans is an A540E. if you were nearer to us we'd sell ya our spare but we're on the other coast. homemechanic
To be honest, the only thing you need to change is the entire car. It's hard to really trust old transmissions like these. If the used transmission is only a couple years old and not too many miles, I would take a chance. Otherwise, it's frankly not worth the money to install a used one from the early 90's. The costs of the old transmission and labor out pace the value of the car. If you only plan to keep the car for another year or two and/or you drive little, not even worth replacing the transmission. Wangan Es250
i know my car isn't really reliable, but i expect it to be this way, seeing as how i beat the crap out of it every chance i get lol.. i actually located another es250 in san diego for $600.00 that runs with a manual trans, so i figure i have a parts car now.. thanks guys!
