SouthLex
I have noticed a groaning and creaking sound that is coming from the steering column whenever I turn left or right. I have been hearing it for a while. It disappeared this week-end only to return mon. morning(it figures). It is driving me crazy! Any ideas on what it is and how to fix it? I have a 2000 ES 300 w/88K miles.
Kauz
I've never fixed this problem but, I've read in a few posts that sometimes the noise may be due to lack of lubrication in one or two places. First, check and lubricate under the steering column dust boot right above the brake pedal. I've read people using WD-40 for this. The other place is the U-joint where the steering column comes out of the firwall. This U-joint can be lubricated using a general purpose grease. Not sure if either one would help but may be worth a check. Kauz
