1996 Es300 Keyless Remote

Hello,

For the record, I would like to say (as if you didn't already know) that this site is absolutely a must-have for any Lexus owner! From common to obscure issues, it seems that at some point someone has found a fix for nearly every problem and I would just like to say thanks for everyone that has put their time an effort into this great site.

I currently have a 96 ES300 that came only with the Master key (no remote). I've spent countless hours looking through topics on this site, but have yet to find a solution to my problem. Programming instructions found on this site will definitely prove useful once I find the right remote, but finding the right FCC ID for this year ES has been giving me a lot of trouble. I've found from this site that 92-95 models use the same remote and that 97+ use the same remotes, but it seems to skip this year. I've tried calling the Lexus dealership, but to no avail. It appeared that no one (I talked to someone in parts as well as an engineer) knew anything about the FCC ID on the back of the remotes and which year used which model remote. I was told I would have to bring the vehicle itself into the shop to have the CPU unit replaced and the key programmed if I wanted keyless entry. This sounded a lot like a skeezy salesman tactic to me so I decided to try to find out myself. Besides that, the key and CPU unit would have cost an OUTRAGEOUS amount of money, especially considering I just want to open my doors without the key (I could probably hire someone full-time to open my doors for less)! So if anyone has any ideas about this, any feedback would be appreciated! Or if anyone with a 96 ES still has a working remote and would be willing to share the FCC ID on the back, that would be great...

Regards,

West

This might be a little bit extreme but it's another suggestion...

I just had a remote starter installed in my car (97 ES) for about $160...an upgrade to the starter I bought sells for around $200 installed at Circuit City (Best Buy would probably be the same)...and comes with keyless remote.

Depending on how much you get quoted for the remote, you might just want to consider the remote starter option.

Thanks for the feedback thus far, I really appreciate it. I've considered having a auto electronics store install the keyless and starter, but would prefer to keep everything stock if at all possible (though the starter would be nice..). As for the aftermarket website that sells keys, they don't seem to offer a remote key, only a key blank instead. I'll probably call Brandon tomorrow at Neff's Safe Lock & Security to see if he knows anything so thanks for the contact info. I'll keep this updated incase anyone else might havea similar problem and could use this information. Thanks again to everyone who has read/contributed to this topic!

Regards,

West
