Lcd Display Issue

Recommended Posts

My LCD display screen for the climate control has been turning dark (blackening) in spots for the past few months now. I've read several threads about how to replace the bulbs, but for some reason I just don't think this is a bulb issue. It just seems like the LCD screen is going bad. It's starting to look like a messed up LCD on one of those jumbo calculators after you've dropped it and cracked the screen.

I'll take a picture and post it if anyone needs to see what I'm talking about. The darkness on the display even stays there after the ignition has been killed. It permanent. That's why I don't think it's a bulb issue.

Has anybody had to replace this display before? What can I expect to cough-up for a new/replacement one? Is it something I can swap-out myself?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

You will either have to get one used from ebay or a salvage yard. New front control panel is around $400+. I didn't want to pay $150 or so for a used one that might begin to fail sooner than expected, so I just bought a new one. But, a new one will cost over $400. Depends on how much your willing to spend I guess. You can swap it out yourself, very easy to do. Remove climate control unit. Remove a few screws from the unit which holds the face on. Then, remove computer like cable and then detach face. Install is the reverse.
