stapes Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I have a slight oil leak from the rear valve cover on my 2000 RX300. I was advised that it would cost $480 to replace the gasket. Does this sound reasonable? Is it possible to tighten the valve cover, and hopefully stop the leak, without getting into some serious dismantling? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks Stapes
bronzemaxell Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 the valve cover gasket itself is around $14 a piece msrp, two will cost less than $30 in part, i guess the rest is all labor, i've done 2 individual 1mz-FE valve cover gaskets, and took me around 2 to 3 hours, but i am not a mechanic. i would also recommend replacing the intake plenum gaskets as well, but that metal gasket will cost around $10, oh, if you have not change the spark plugs, it is also a good time to replace as well since you are right there.
