Rpm Sensor

I have 91 LS400 with 182,000 miles.

This problem started with the Check Engine and TRAC lights popping on at the same time after a few minutes of driving. They would stay on for some time then go out then on then out (so on). Took it in for a check - couldn't find anything wrong.

After a week, the car started to jolt as if the engine lost all power for a fraction of a second. It would do this several times while driving at speeds around 50mph and above.

Took the car in again - found an RPM reporting error. I was told this could be two different things. 1. The connections for the RPM sensor ($120 for repair) or 2. The RPM Sensor itself ($1500+ for repair). Lucky for me it was the connections (so we thought). Got the car back and it ran great for one, maybe two, days.

ITS JOLTING AGAIN.... No Check Engine and TRAC lights this time. Yet! I'm not real anxious to take this back in to hear its the sensor. I'd appreciate any comments or advice. THANKS!
