Navigation Avoid Areas Not Working

I recently discovered a neat feature in the Navigation owners manual. You can set up a marked place to AVOID when routing. Like when you are driving south on 95 and you want to go around DC, you can select a section of 95 in DC to avoid so that the calculated route goes around that area.

Unfortunately, I can not get it to work … The dealer is clueless. Does anyone here have any ideas?
