Rear Hatch Won't Open| Struts, Motor, Computer ?

The rear hatch on our 2016 RX began to have intermittent problems. It would sometimes stop in the middle of the cycle, and we would have to manually force it. It finally stopped working. The dealer told us it needed new liftgate struts and a new computer/motor. The estimate was over $2,300. I suggested it seemed a coincidence that the struts and the computer/motor went bad simultaneously. I suggested they replace one or the other to test it. I was told the "codes" indicated both needed to be replaced. Finally, they replaced the struts only, and it worked. This entire scenario seems a  little sketchy for a Lexus dealer. Has anyone experienced Hatch issues with a 2016 model style?
