  1. Hi, I have a problem with a part of the bodywork coming loose and lifting up. It's the long thin piece that runs from the hood to the trunk above the doors. It works loose at speed and if I go througha car wash...which is very annoying. There is no visible problem as the clips all seem to be in order and I can bang it back in place. I even had Lexus check it out but hey said they couldn't find anything wrong yet the damn thing still keeps working loose. I went through a car wash today and I think I may have made it worse. It doesn't fit back completely now so I think I'm looking at replacement. Does anybody know what the actual part is called, where I might find a new one, and anything else that might be the cause or a fix?
  2. I have the Nakamichi CD Changer stereo, but it seems to have a problem playing my old tapes. With the radio and CD's, the sound is excellent but when I try to play one of my cassettes it sounds terrible. It is completely muffled as if it is coming out of just one speaker. Can anyone suggest what the problem may be??
  3. Ok, I found all the previous info on this subject. I just wanted to confirm that it was a cable problem. I guess I was also thinking is it worth just replacing the entire motor since the cost would not be much more? I see full units on Ebay for about $40 and cable only for $20.
  4. OK, this just happened to my GS300. I hear the motor running, but the antenna doesn't move. So I am assuming my cable has snapped. Do I need to get a whole new motor, or just a cable? How difficult is it to make the repair? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Hello all, I took my GS 300 for an oil change at the local Toyota dealer this weekend. During the work, they told me that the drain plug was stripped and I would need a replacement. As it was only a few bucks and essential, I said go ahead. Then a few minutes later they came back and said that the oil pan threads themself were stripped and that I would need to get it replaced. They also said that they could not guarantee that the drain plug would not fall out while driving! So i asked if they could put some sort of thread tape on there or a larger plug to ensure that it wouldn't drop off and allow me to drive. They said that they had put on a larger plug but I would need to get it sorted out quickly. My questions are: 1) Is this a plausible story? They claimed that whoever did the previous oil change must have stripped the threads when they replaced the plug. 2) Is it a big job to get the oil pan replaced? Would it be ok to use a salvaged part, or a non-Lexus part if one is available? The Toyota people were not very helpful, and I am concerned that my signing their documentation may absolve them from any possible liability. Thanks for any input I receive.
  6. I agree that all four should be replaced at once, however the front tires are in good shape. They have plenty of wear left so should be good for a few more years. I have had a few experts say that there should not be a problem with a different speed rating, so long as they are the same sort of tire. What concerns me is why the rear tires wore out quicker than the front. Thanks.
  7. Hey everybody. I have read through the tire threads in this forum, and the tire forum, but have not seen a reply that answers my question. What I am thinking of doing is replacing the two worn rear tires on my 93 GS300. It currently has Michelin Pilot XGT V4's on all four wheels. What I am thinking of doing is putting the less-expensive Michelin Pilot XGT H4's on the rear as replacements. I am thinking that as I don't intend driving at high speeds, the lesser speed rating will be adequate for my needs. What do people here think? Do you recommend any other Michelin tires such as the Hydroedge instead? I will be driving in Sacramento, so will only have rain to contend with this winter. any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  8. Thanks for the welcome and the info guys. :D
  9. Hi guys I just bought a ’93 GS300 this weekend and already don’t ever want to part with it! But since I have never owned a beautiful machine such as this before, need some general advice. I bought it at auction, so have no records whatsoever regarding service history. Is there any way I can find out whether it has been dealer-serviced by quoting the VIN number to my local dealer? What products would forum members recommend for cleaning/waxing and interior maintenance? Similarly, which fluids would you recommend? Sorry if I should have found all this info elsewhere on the site, I did look around. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a dedicated page with this sort of info for future Lexus virgins like myself!!
