  1. MingF. You have just described my EXACT problem. Unfortunately, I took it to a dealer and although I had mentioned that it may be the iacv (the only part in my RX that has a warranty on it) the dealership proceeded to take 3.5 hours to "isolate the problem." Upon inquiry at two hours, I was told that it was if fact not the iacv and that it is likely to be an air compression issue. In the end, the problem was not solved, and no error codes were detected and my RX idles at an irritatingly high volume and I'm down about $400 for labor. After all these issues, with the dealers and useless technicians in the last 7 months, I've finally decided to get rid of my RX 01 within another month. Good luck, and let me know if you find a cost effective solution to the problem. MT
  2. In the past week or so I have been experiencing a seemingly worsening idle problem in my 2001 RX300. Here's the situation, the vehicle idles incessantly when either it is in gear and the brake is being applied, or when it is in park. I've begun to notice the idle vibrations getting more and more severe as of late. For one I suspect that the extra cold weather may be part of the problem but this idling still happens even after the vehicle has been adequately warmed up. I recently got my Mass air flow sensor replaced and got new brake and rotors. My RX is at 67K miles. Any help would be much much appreciated.
  3. ABS? Is the sound more noticable from the passenger side wheel well? I had a similar experience, and had the belts replaced. problem solved.
  4. Lindsay Lexus of Alexandria has been all but positive experiences since I've started going there...only had a handful of services and repairs there though. By any chance is the Rockville dealership Pohanka Lexus?
  5. Any dark smoke exiting the tailpipe while running?
  6. As far as my experience, Prestige Lexus and their other dealerships, Toyota, BMW, Benz, etc. all have extemely professional personnel and aren't as sketchy as some of the others that i've dealt with in the area and elsewhere.
  7. Thanks for the advice, I brought all that up to the service rep when I went to the dealership. Apparently the problem was an open circuit at the idle control valve. The dealership replaced the valve assembly.
  8. Well, I went to my nearest lexus dealership to get my RX300 engine cutoff problem fixed last week. This was the second time I had gone to them about this problem, last time the technicians couldn't find the problem, but this time they did. All the issues I brought to them, weird creaking clicking noises, suspicions of belts needing replacing and so on were fixed promptly. When I dropped my RX off I told the service rep that this engine cutoff problem (that I posted about in the RX forum) needs to be fixed at any costs. (I drive between DC and NYC several times a month and the engine luckily has only cut off upon my arrivals back to DC) To my surprise, despite the fact that my warranty has expired (I'm at 60K), the dealership replaced the problem (the valve asembly) no charge. They also replaced my belts free of charge as good will. I always complain about lexus service, but this experience really astonished me. For anyone in the DC metro area, I have to highly recommend Lindsay Lexus of Alexandria.
  9. This is the second time it has happened, and the Lexus Service department was unable to figure out the problem. Driving back to DC from Baltimore I came off 295 onto New York Ave. and applied about medium braking in order to stop at the first red light. Upon stopping, there was a deep clunking noise and the engine cut off. All the lights (chekc engine, oil, battery, etc.) within the driver's console (speedometer, RPM,etc) lit up. I then had to put the car into park and start the engine again. The console lit up the same way it does when you turn the key into the third position, right before starting the engine. This is the second time this has happened this month, and I will be going back to the lexus dealership next week, but has anyone else encountered this problem? Any assumptions to what may be the problem? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanx in advance.
  10. A few years back, a friend of mine took his RX 300 out mud bogging and some mild off-roading, the car came back dirty but mechanically fine.
  11. I have a 01 RX 300 and I've been experiencing the same kind of problem. I'm almost at 60K, and I get the intermitent squeeling/flapping noise about 90% of the time now. It fades a little after the car warms up or after it has been driven for a while, but at start up the volume is significant. Anyone know what the belt adjustment or replacement costs at the dealerships? Thanx.
  12. I just got my 60K service done, and the total after tax was $752.21.
