  1. I do not believe it to be AC related. I see the water immediately after pouring it into the drain holes. It runs our by the driver front door post. AC condenser is located near the middle of the vehicle. I sprayed some PB plaster into the drain hole and snaked some weedwacker line about 3 feet into drain. Didn't see any leaks after doing this. Perhaps just had some debris slowing the flow and allowing back-up to spill over. Thanks
  2. Have a 94 LS400 w/ 200k miles. Recently started leaking near the front passenger side kick panel. If I pour water into the gutter of the sun roof, it drains quickly down the drain holes and out the normal locations by the front and rear doors. However some water does start dripping along the front pillar near the bottom. Must be a hole in the tubing along the windshield pillar. Has anyone taken the trim off around there? Where do you start? Does the headliner need to come down? Thanks
  3. I've had an LS400 for many years, now with 200k miles. Just purchased an ES350 and have new electronics to play with. I have a Droid (Verizon)and have been able to get it to work with the Bluetooth just fine. The problem comes when trying to synch my contacts in the Droid to the Bluetooth. I have read numerous articles on similar topics on Droid and Lexus forums, but am still stumped. Many discussions show the issue has been resolved and others say the Droid won't synch with Bluetooth?????? Here is what I have done- 1-I downloaded the Bluetooth Files transfer app 2-Cleaned out the existing contacts in the Lexus 3-Followed the instructions to add contacts from phone 4-Had the phone send contacts 5-BUT- It makes me add them one at a time. This could take hours and I have read where hundreds get loaded in seconds. Went to the Lexus dealer for help and got another new answer. They said only works if you have Navigation package??? How can that be, Navigation somehow has more options for Bluetooth? Anyway- Am I wasting my time trying to synch these?? Can it really be done? Do you need Navigation? Help. Thanks

  5. I had the same problem. Loosen the bolts that hold the pump to the engine and slide the pump forward until you can rotate it. Point the banjo fitting upwards and then hit it with an impact wrench. You maybe able to also use a longer handled ratchet as well.
  6. Follow the two vacuum lines from the pump to the intake and just disconnect them. Then use a golf tee to plug each line and also plug the intake ports so you don't create a vacuum leak. When I replaced my pump upon disconnecting the lines from the pump, fluid poured out. Check if any fluid is in the lines.

  8. If you have no external leaks but constantly need to add fluid, it is getting sucked into the intake. The pump has an idle control valve that is vacuum operated. The valve leaks after a while and pulls ps fluid into the intake and burns it. Replace the valve or remove it and seal the port off. The valve is not needed for operation. Probably best to just replace the pump.
  9. I have used Valvoline's equivalent for the past several years (Maxlife?). Never had a problem. I do like the fact this is a nationally recognized company versus some house brand of oil. One less layer of information missing. 175K on the tranny, engine too.
  10. This is one of the simplest repairs I have done. I did not replace the LCD, don't trust my soldering skills. Go on ebay and you can purchase the units already rebuilt. Think my bid was around $160?? Received a completly rebuilt unit, new bulbs etc and great instructions. Person was located in CA. Just had to send back the core for a refund. 30 minutes tops. Good luck, and it is well worth it. Only problem is now the radio display looks dingy in comparison.
  11. Tires age by mileage and time. At seven years it would be wide to replace them especially if they are showing wear patterns. With 128K in mileage, you are due for some suspension maintenance. Ball joints and struts are near the end of their service life and each can impact tire wear. Were they inspected as well? $330 seems a very reasonable price to purchase and install new struts. I would caution against non OEM struts unless you don't mind loosing the Lexus type ride. Various others have commented that aftermarket struts alter the ride in a negative way, even the KGB brand. Irontoad sells Lexus struts for slightly over $100 each. They are not a bad diy project with lots of directions and help available on line. Don't forget an alignment as well.
  12. I have removed and installed two pumps. Because of all the fluid that can be spilled during removal and installation, I opted to also unbolt the alternator prior to working on the pump. The alternator is very simple to remove, only a nut and bolt and a few wires to unplug. This gives great access to the pump and you don't have to worry about flooding it with PS fluid in the event of a spill. To me the hardest part to remove was the high pressure fitting, it just would not budge and there was no room for a large wrench. So I ended up rotating the pump so I could get a straight shot at it from above and while holding the pump in one hand used an impact wrench to loosen the bolt. Perfect. Get a new banjo washer for the fitting, about $5 at the dealer. Remove and plug the IAC valve port and vaccumm fittings and clean the screen in the solenoid, flush and bleed the system. Good to go. Found new non OEM pump on ebay for $200. We'll see how it holds up.
  13. The regulator is integrated in the alternator, I am trying to figure out if other factors can cause these symptoms prior to replacing it.
  14. First of all many thanks to owners who have contributed over the years. I have gleaned too much to mention. Current problem with a 94 LS400 180K miles is that I am getting regular every few minutes voltage surges. Fan speeds up, lights get bright, battery light illuminates for a few seconds then drops back to normal. Digital voltage (cigarette lighter) reads 14-14.4 then soars past 16. I rebuilt the power steering pump last August and replaced the alternator with a rebuilt at that time. Every thing is dry underneath, removed the battery connections and cleaned and reinstalled (battery is less than a year old). I also checked the trunk hinge wires, but found no broken wires there. I ran the car and from underneath tried jiggling the alternator connections but the problem doesn't seem to happen very often at idle, either way I couldn't induce the voltage change from moving the wires. I am stumped, I have another alternator coming in tomorrow, but would like to make sure I don't have another problem first. Suggestions please. Thanks
  15. Same thing happened to my 92 LS400. It turns out because these buttons may be infrequently used the contacts develop some corrosion. The mechanic said just to keep trying them and eventually it will start to work. I spent about 1/2 hour just punching the buttons and eventually the beep reappeared and they worked again! Ever since then I make sure to change the settings occasionally. When you hear hoof beats think horses not zebras. Good Luck
