Sounds like coil packs.

Hope this helps. I have a 2002 ES that was showing the same symptoms. I took it to a Lexus knockoff shop and the changed the a/c relay switch and that did the trick. Not sure if the same fix would apply to your '97. Hopefully some others will weigh in. Good luck.

This may help. I have a 2002 es and when I burned cds on a rewritable cd they would not play. When I switched to CD-R, then everything was fine. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

I had the flickering problem with A/C light and it was indeed the relay. Replaced and no problem since. Not sure about the other warning lights. Good luck.
