  1. Ok, I'm about to answer my own question.... After sitting for a couple of days we went out and started the car and the old disk loaded back into the system. Go figure.... after trying everything and putting up with no nav system for a day it just started working. I did get to talk to an expert Lexus tech and he said there should be no problem reverting to an older nav DVD and had no real answer as to why it had stopped working in the first place, or why it came back online. Either way, were happy again..... :D
  2. I tried to install a 04' LS430 nav DVD in a '01 LS430. It could not read the disk. I put the old disk back in and it cant read it either. I assume there must be a way to clear or re-set the Nav so it will accept it's original disk. Can anyone enlighten me as to what the procedure is ?? Thanks -Kort
  3. The 18s are very smoothI think the most noticable difference is the improved feel in heavy corners you stay flatter and it's not as easy for the car to ride up the sidewall. I used to get wear on the tire sidewall on the 17s from pushing through a freeway onranp thats a dropdown full 360 on my daily commute. I have yet to experience similiar wear with the lower profiles on the 18s. As for the Nav disk if the 04 is not compatible with the 01 how could it re-program the system enough to no longer read the original disk???
  4. Both my '01 and '04 have the sports suspension (only way to go IMHO) The '04 with the 18" wheels feels a bit more responsive and I can push tight turns a little faster before any tire squeel occurs. I'm very happy with the '04 and have no issues with the '01. Both are excellent.
  5. Thats no fun , so what do I need to do to get the old disk to work?? I put the old DVD in and the system says that it cannot read the disk. Is there a way to completely reset the system so the original disk will be accepted by the system? Thanks Kort
  6. I have a 2004 LS430 and a 2001 LS430 both with the Nav/Lev option. Recently there was a new DVD released for the '04 navigation as a warranty upgrade. I installed the upgrade in the '04 without a hitch. Then I figured I'd use the old '04 DVD to upgrade my '01. Upon putting the newer disk in the '01 player, the screen said it could not read the disk. I re-tried several times with no success and then put the old disk back in. It now is saying the original disk cannot be read either. I recall hearing sometime back that you cannot revert to an older disks. Is this true? Is there a reset? or is the '04 disk not compatible with the '01 nav??? I'd appreciate any advise to get the '01 back up and running with either disk. Thanks Kort
  7. If you have a 2004 LS430 buy the factory unit from the dealer. Shop around because some discount more than others. I installed my own unit and replaced the factory antenna with an aftermarket mini by Terk. It works great and is not as conspicuous. There is a fair amount of work involved in the install so if you’re not comfortable disassembling your trunk and routing wires have the dealer install it. If you have an earlier model that does not have the integrated XM just find any after market unit and have it installed. The upside is you can go with either XM or Sirius and the hardware will cost less. The downside is additional controllers and the install is not as clean.
  8. Just picked up my v710 today from VZN. The official release in the VZN stores is tomorrow and Radio Shack had them last week. The price is better at VZN though. I have noted the same issues with the non-ringing and can't send the phone book to the console when in a bluetooth session. I don't mind that it does not ring since it does sillence the radio during an inbound call, and thats all the notice I need. Not being able to upload the phonebook is an issue though. Has anyone tried to voice dial while in a BT session? I think I'll try that now since all the numbers in the v710 can be accessed by using the voice dial feature and stating the name as it's programmed into the phone.
  9. Thanks for the confirmation, thats what I suspected otherwise Lexus would have done it. I have ordered the Terk Xmicro and the Y adapter to go from the old twin lead to the newer single lead system. I am hoping to work the cable around the rear window and mount the unit behind the satelite antenna.
  10. I have just installed the factory XM radio in a 2004 LS430 and put the large antenna in the center rear section of the trunk lid. It's not too attractive so I am wondering, is it possible to use the existing satelite navigation antenna to also receive the XM signals? and if yes whats the proper proceedure?

  12. My local dealer sold me the XM unit for $480 out the door. It's now installed, very easy and not in the place the factory suggests with the mods to the covers and all, and I mounted the antenna on the rear deck lid just below the brake light instead of the side mount they reccomend. It looks better and works great. I'm now looking for a smaller xm antenna to replace the big factory one but the trick is finding one using the older two connector system as most of the new mini antennas (Terk) use single connectors. Also just installed the Escort Passport SRX Radar Detector & Laser Shifter. If you need such a "Safety Feature" this is the way to go.
  13. I'm on my 3rd LS one 400 and two 430's. The 430's both have the Euro Suspension and with the 04' I think they have improved over the 01'. It feels flatter in the turns and more stable with the 18 x 7.5 rims. There is an on-ramp I take regularly that does a complete 360 as you drop down and onto the freeway. The 01' LS 430 Sport would squeel some when you pushed it, but the 04' is like riding on a rail at the same speed. Very stable, no squeel or slip. I tried the active suspension on the U/L in "Sport Mode" not even close to the real thing. It stiffend a bit but still felt like it was riding on airbags. If you want the real luxury ride, go with the U/L, but if you like to drive and want a feel more like MB or BMW without the regular shop visits and depreciation go with the LS 430 Sport and - for bells & whistles the Modern Luxury Package. The only thing I'd add, but it's not available (at least on the west coast) with this configuration is the radar cruise & collision avoidance system.
  14. Does anyone have the part number to buy the XM unit via LEXUSPARTSMALL.COM? I have asked them via e-mail, but as of yet, no reply. Also: For the question re: The antennae leads on the 04 they are combined into a square plug on the side on the unit in the trunk. There is a small and a larger coax attached via a single plug. My assumption is the smaller is for the am. I was about to simply splice into the larger coax and install the XM Commander but if the factory unit is available at a reasonable price, then the bennefit of being able to use the factory tuner instead of hiding the XM Commander tuner in the ashtray is worth the extra couple of hundred bucks.
