  1. I have a 2000 LS 400 M, with factory HID headlights, The Drivers side is no longer working, here is the thing: Whenever a lightbulb burns out the a warning will come on. This time there is nothing showing that the headlamp stopped working I find this odd and I am thinking it could be something other than the HID bulb...Has anyone out there had this problem?
  2. I would like the opposite, to have doors lock when I drive away and unlock when I return and put in park... :D
  3. Hi Chubyball I have exactly the same problem with my 2000 LS400. The vibration occurs sporadically. There is no noise. Trying to drive faster makes the shaking worse. Stopping the car and restarting solves the problem. DID YOU FINALLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM? WHAT WAS THE CAUSE? WHAT WAS THE SOLUTION? I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks Femi :( Include me now as well, I have a 2000 LS, this started in the summer and again is only an occasional problem so it could not be an out of round tire, or a bushing, etc, I have a feeling like Chuby that it could be parking brake related because if you drive the car for a while the shaking stops eventually. The thing is I don't really smell anything which is what I would expect if it was the parking brake being stuck and besides it’s a shake not a lock up. Any ideas on how to check or lube the parking brake cable?
  4. Well I beg to differ Lexusfreak here is my two cents, Yes they have a great new dealership however they are not very flexible on pricing and compared to U.S. prices Lexus Canada is way out. I tried to deal with this dealership but found that they did not move very much on the pricing and I ended up buying in Toronto where there is a lot more choice and competition. I recently had to replace my starter, the Lexus dealership quoted 7 Hours at $99.00 per hour they wanted $900+ for the OEM starter and $200 for the gaskets,O rings etc. I got the starter selonoid and the rest of the parts from Toyota Parts for $285 and got the job done at Williams for 4.5 hours @ $85.00. Oviously the Lexus dealership only wants warranty work for newer cars and is not interested in out of warranty cars. I get this feeling that when I drive into the service area in my older Lexus that I am dismissed as someone who can't afford a new one so I don't get the "preferential treatment" I got rid of the Mercedes because of this type of attitude, Its disappointing to see the same lack of pride starting to spring from the Lexus folks...
  5. Change of heart :) I have decided not to make a move for now, we have two gas misers right now so the big lady is just for my own pleasure and I know that kind of comfort, power and ride could not be replaced by a smaller sportier car that would make me feel younger... Thanks to all who showed interest and shared story's I know I would have missed the passion you all have for the LS series. I gave the car a thorough clean up and detail and she looked so great out in the sun I thought to myself, this is a beautiful big car how can you think of selling it??
  6. General question, I am a strong believer when it comes to cars in "If it aint broke, don't fix it" so I need to find out why would it be a good thing to change the intake gasket, or the timing belt or the sparkplugs for that matter on a car with 120Kms on it that is running fine? :(
  7. Thanks for the reply fellows Yeah; you could say I am having mixed feelings about letting this car go. I am not 100% committed to trading in the lady… However for those of you who have gone through a divorce and managed to get through it alive and somehow found a younger less worn out and better looking replacement… I’ll admit it there is some envy in seeing a friend strutting around with some young great looking new toy. Alas, an LS 400 still has some monetary value whereas the Ex will take every cent she can get her hands on! The IS thing is more to get a sporty feeling car again, the gas use is comparable believe or not. My LS is using 12. L per 100Km average city/hwy according to the car computer, my highest average was around 14.5 with mainly city driving. (I don’t drive much) The IS I test drove had a reading of 11.L per 100km however everyone test driving this car must have punched the accelerator as soon as they drove off the parking lot! I know I did… My search for a replacement is kind of difficult being that I live in a city with limited dealerships of high end cars (one of each) The other problem is the fact that there are very few IS models out there so dare I say I checked out the Infinity, Volvo/Jag, BMW lots but definitely not the Benz dealership I had my service nightmare with them… It’s all very time consuming and I hate the haggling but love to save a buck, I will get back to ye, heh heh. :D
  8. Well the time has come for a change, looking for something smaller like an IS 250. What should I expect to get?? Specs: LS400 2000 (MILLENEUM EDITION, gun metal black grille & markings)No Nav, White & Grey two-tone with Beige leather interior with wood inserts, wheel, knob, HID, etc. 120.000 KM (Canadian car) See Avatar. Running like a charm, Never had to use the extended warranty.(Now over) If anyone can give me an accurate estimate it would really help me in working out next deal. Would Ebay motors be something to look into?? Thanks in advance. :D
  9. Follow up: So far so good, Have not had any more "Incidents" with starting the car... one turn of the key and she stars right up! love this car it self fixes itself! Seriously though I cant think of what would have caused this to happen and now it seems to have gone away...
  10. Ebay, agree. What kind of quality do you get from Ebay? Are they going to be from China? I worry about Ebay stuff as you hear of so many clone parts which do not meet safety standards. I am having the same trouble with my hood. Would this be covered under an extended warranty?
  11. Hello rfeldes, You lucky dog! a 460!! she's a beauty...(envy)lol! Stupid question but what is involved in the 100.000kms check up? With cars, I am a firm beliver in the old saying "If it aint broke.... I mean why ruin a good thing; do you know other wise? Besides I don't believe parts would be covered. Thanks
  12. Hello Lexusfreak, I would think that bushings would be a normal use wear and tear part, you say that they were replaced under warranty?? Good deal... I have a couple of minor issues with my suspension however I don't think this type of thing would not be covered under warranty. I will definitely take your advice and have the dealership go over the vehicle. As far as the hood struts, i believe they are covered... My extended warranty was pretty expensive too but having a Mercedes Benz 320-4matic before that I figured it would pay for itself since that car cost me dear in repairs(%$#@*!) Little did I know what a beautiful (built like a tank) quality I would have with the Lexus!!!! :D
  13. 117.515 KM 2000 LS 400 Limited Edition I purchased a comprehensive extended warranty which will run out in June or 120.000 KM, I have to take the car to the shop to have the Hood struts replaced as they wont hold it anymore. Is there any other Items that should be checked out before the warranty runs out?? The warranty is with an external warranty company not the Lexus warranty...
  14. Lexus LS 400 2000 Limited Edition Wow a problem creeping up! It began last week when I cranked the key a click and nothing! Release try again, this time engine engaged and turned over but did not start like it always has (started to worry!) let go of the key after five seconds... I am inside my garage had the window open smelled strong gas fumes... Flooded??? I pushed the pedal to the metal and held whilst I cranked the engine; finally it started went to work. Next day same thing (shock starts to set in) but it finally started after a few dead cranks with only a click, the dashboard lights go on however there is no engagement...then the engine caught on, I went to work. That afternoon as I was going home went to start the engine and the same $%#@* thing!!! Man; it used to start instantly now there is this small delay and it seems to be getting worse. Strong smell of gas when it fails to start, I supposed the fuel injectors are filling the cylinders with gas but there is no start as whatever is causing this problem is delaying the spark. I know I have to go to the Service shop, so the question is: What is the most likely diagnosis that I can suggest to the service department so that I don't get taken out to the cleaners... Thank you Gentlemen
  15. I've been there and will never forget the low quality for a car of this pedigree and the attitude of the service department... They simply dont give a damm if your car is a little bit older. Nice driving cars I'll grant you that however be prepared to spend a lot of time and money on service. (Just read consumers report) Good luck if you buy one anyways...
  16. We are lucky to have a Lexus dealership in our city and a very good service manager as far as I can tell however I always like to get any information regarding a problem so that I can cross reference the information that I get back from the dealer. It keeps them honest and I get to learn a little bit about what CO2 sensors and other new stuff if put in cars now days. Of course it"s about money too (If I could afford a 2006-07 I would not be in this forum.) I am curious by nature so the codes are of interest to me. The sea foam I take is some sort of high pressure wash I assume, I just don't see what it has to do with the sea? When I get to the service department I'll be better informed thanks to the great members in this forum.
  17. Anybody got any suggestions?? Anybody There?
  18. Who has Satelite Radio What brand: I have Sirius as I can listen online at home or when away anywhere in the world I like Stern Bubba and Ferrall, Love Nascar as well.
  19. I have the same problem with my 2000 LS ED I Have a couple of questions... What is a sea foam? Is there a way to get the code readout for this problem so that I can be more specific to my service rep? When the engine light went on I though this was a very serius problem the service manager told me to wait it out. What are the consequences and eventual effects that the car will experience? Thank you
  20. Can anyone advice me on how to remove the cigarette lighter compartment to reconnect it as there is no power for accesories... 2000 Ls 400.
  21. Family_032a.bmp sorry trouble adding pic of benz.
  22. Had a 4matic 98 E320, with just over 100k. With in a year and a half. Had to replace front strut, alternator, water pump, had serious rust under the front doors and hood from chips, and rust developing thoughout the car. when the air conditiner started to go and being fed up with the A&B service check requirements I trade it in for the Lexus on the picture, I have not spent anything on the car other than regular maintenance and a stuck cigarrete lighter door (My fault left a credit card and it jammed) will never look back to benz unless I win one (then trade it in for a 2006 ls)
