  1. I own a white 95 SC400 and always seem to pick up tar and other junk that is hard to remove on the bottom half of the car. I called Lexus about some Factory splash guards, but they don't make them for the SC. I searched on the Web and found a few companies that offer them, but it appears that they might be "One Size Fits All". I want them to look nice. Has anyone found mud flaps / splash guards that are custom fit for the SC?? If so, where did you get them??
  2. You can try: http://www.elliottelectronics.com/ They did a good job for me. Marty
  3. Did you try replacing the lighter itself (you know the puch in part) Mine didn't work either when I bought it, so I went to Pep Boys and bought an aftermarket one for a few bucks and presto it works. I would hope that Lexus would have tried this though.
  4. I saw one on E-Bay for a $150 bucks Buy IT Now just yesterday. Search under "lexus sc". Good Luck
  5. Thanks JPI, I will try pulling the glove compartment and checking it out. It may be a little while since the weather is not forcing me to fix it ASAP. But I will update you with my progress. Thanks to everyone for their help!!!
  6. Well I've got the Lexus manuals now and it appears that the dash has to come off to get to the air mix servo motor. Has anyone removed the dash before on an SC400?? It does'nt look to easy. I am pretty handy, but I hate like hell to screw anything up!!!
  7. When you say moron, I hope your not talking about me because besides not being nice, your also wrong. The guy that repaired mine said that about half of the units he repairs are from scavenged cars and E-Bay. So, buyer beware. You get what you pay for. P.S. if your going to call people names that are just trying to help other people, I suggest you stay off of this site.
  8. Wow, thanks K9crew!!! This will help a lot. I'm not sure how to get to all the parts to test them, so I have the Lexus manuals on order to allow me to pull the car apart and fix it. Your help has been greatly appreciated!! Marty
  9. The CD player didn't work at all when I bought the car, so I don't know if it skipped or not. After repair, it only skips on rough roads. Marty
  10. The only thing I can think of is the windshield washer fluid level is low. This is the only warning light in the upper left hand corner. Put some juice in the windshield washer tank and see if it goes away!!! Marty
  11. When I bought my 95, I knew that the CD changer didn't work. Yours is doing the exact same thing mine did. The cartridge was jammed and would not come out. I removed the entire unit and sent it to: Elliot Electronics 701 W. Edmond Road Edmond, OK 73003 Phone 405-330-4255 Ken of Elliot Electronics got it working great. Unfortunately, in addition to the cartridge problem, mine also needed a new laser and other parts. Cost was $300.00 even. Depending on the repair, yours can run from $90 to $300 max I am told. To remove the unit, you need to pull off the carpeting on the right side. To do this, you need to remove a few of the plastic fittings in the rear carpet as well as the front carpet. After that it is pretty simple. 3 10mm bolts and 1 10mm nut need to be removed and the unit will come out. Unplug it and send the entire unit, cartridge and all for repair. Good luck. Marty
  12. K9CREW, you is da man!!!! I just tried the sel diagnostics and got trouble codes 21 & 41. The number 21 is the solar sensor unit, but is was dusk when I did the test. Besides, it works fine. But, code 41 "Air mix door servo motor circuit" could be the jack pot!!!! It sounds like it makes sense to me. Got anything in the manual to solve this code K9Crew??? Let me know. Thanks to everyone who is helping out. Marty
  13. Wow, you guys are great. I will give the diagnostics a try. My coolant is a reddish color by the way. I will keep you filled in. I am working on getting a set of manuals for a 1997 SC400. I assume that the 95 and 97 will be almost exactly the same??? Any comments?? Marty
  14. When you say blocked heater core and difficult to replace, how difficult?? Is there a way to unblock it?? What's got to come off to get to it?? Thanks for you help.
  15. The car never overheats, even when driving from Houton to Chicago non-stop. (it didn't blow heat either). The fluid level is AOK. When I changed the thermostat, I refilled the system, ran the engine, bled it, refilled etc. etc. Where oh where has my hot air gone...
  16. I should have mentioned it earlier, but that was the first thing that I replaced. I did it even though the engine warmed up as it should. Alas, it did not work. I checked both hoses on either side of the heater control valve and both are hot. I manually actuated the valve and it still does not blow warm air. At least I've got some time to figure it out. Kee the suggestions coming!! Marty
  17. Well, I picked up another heater control valve, and still no heat!!! Help!!! What else could it be. If anyone has some advice, let me know. Thanks
  18. This is the programming sequence for a 1995 SC300 / SC400 I don't guarantee it will work, but it might be worth a try. Using the original Master key Open driver door, keep it open and in the unlocked position Put original key in ignition and pull out Lock and Unlock the doors 5 times Close the door and open the door Lock and Unlock the doors another 5 times Put the Master Key in the ignition, turn it on and then off and remove from the ignition You should hear a confirmation beep within 10 seconds and the door locks should actuate Push the button on the new key Close the door and open the door Push the button again on the new key Marty
  19. Well, I got the gizmo off of E-Bay and tried it. There is some good news and some mediocre news. The good news: When I removed the emblems (which is very easy, just pull off the center caps and push them out from the back) from the wheels and used a very fine steel wool on them and they cleaned up like new!! Obviously the problem was oxidation of some sort. The gold underneath was in excellent condition. Now the somewhat good news: I removed some of the other emblems (with much difficulty) I don't think they are designed to be removed without tearing the car apart to get to the backside. I would strongly recommend that you plate them while they are on the car, just make sure you wash off all the solution afterwards. The plating did work.... about 50% as well as I hoped it would. I did see color change, where there was very little gold remaining, gold color was deposited. However, it was not the bright shiny gold color you see in the other postings. It gave the emblems more of a brassy look. After polishing, they were'nt much better. I was able to plate two emblems that remained on the car and 6 that I removed. So in the end, I would say that all the emblems have a more even appearance, just not that bright shiny gold appearance. I have sent an e-mail to the seller asking for advice a few days ago. As of this writing, no word yet. Marty
  20. The programming above was given to me by my local Lexus dealer in response to my question regarding my 1995 SC400. I "assumed" they would be the same, so no guarentee. You know what they say about assume. (There, I beat you to the punch!!)
  21. Well I flipped for the $38.00 + $7.00 for shipping just now. When I get the doohicky and try it, I will let everyone know how it worked out. Marty
  22. I recently bought a beautiful 1995 SC400. It shows perfect except for the "Gold Package" doo dads (Lexus emblem, SC400 Emblem etc.). I've been searching the web for an inexpensive way to re-plate them in gold. There are numerous ways to do this, with the cheapest I've found being on E-Bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=2524862508 It costs $38.00 and sounds too good to be true. Has anyone every tried something like this? If so, how well do they work? I look forward to your enlightening feedback. Marty
  23. I did try that and the heat air coming out of the vents would heat up a little, but as soon as i drive, it gets cold again. My Lexus dealer checked it out and assures me this is the issue. Thanks for the advice.
  24. I am looking for the heater control valve from a 1992 through 2000, Lexus SC300 or SC400. It is located in the engine bay on the firewall on the passenger side. Lexus wants $400 plus $150 to install. Anyone know of a wrecked 1992 through 2000 SC300 or SC400??
  25. You can buy an older key on E-Bay "IF" you want to use the transponder only!!!! and "IF" the new key has the same FCC number sas your original. When you pick up the new transponder, you can program it as follows: Open driver door, keep it open and in the unlocked position Put original key in ignition and pull out Lock and Unlock the doors 5 times Close the door and open the door Lock and Unlock the doors another 5 times Put the Master Key in the ignition, turn it on and then off and remove from the ignition You should hear a confirmation beep within 10 seconds and the door locks should actuate Push the button on the new key Close the door and open the door Push the button again on the new key That should do it!!! Good luck, Marty
