  1. Do you notice it is colder when you come to a stop?? Add a little anit-freeeze!! Mine would blow cold when I came to a stop and warm when I began moving. Someone on this site said to add a little anti-freeze. Even though the level looked OK, I added about a pint and a half and voila, it blows warm when stopped. But, it also blows warmer when I'm moving also. So, double check your anti-freeze and possibly add a little juice.
  2. That always made me wonder too, but the more you think about, the more sense it makes. Your supposed to run you A/C occaisionally during the winter to keep the seals lubed, so by setting it to AUTO, it does it for you. By the way, my A/C turns off after about 10/15 minutes of running.
  3. It's amazing what about a pint and a half of anti-freeze will do!!! Even though my overflow tank appeared to be at the "Full" line, I added some anti-freeze anyway. Now I have my heat back full time!!!
  4. Today I am going to add a little anti-freeze, just to top it off (the guy at Lexus and on this website said that might be the problem?. If that doesn't work, I am going to replace all vacuum hoses and that check valve leading up to the heater control valve.
  5. OK, here is the deal. Even though my 1995 SC400 is completely warmed up, the heater blower will not turn on until I start driving. Then it fires up and the air is warm. If I come to a stop light and stop, it then starts blowing cold. I already replaced the heater control valve and still the same problem. I inspected the vacuum hoses going to the heater control valve and they look OK. I also did a quick test of the the little check valve on the vacuum hose going to the heater control valve. Anyone had this problem before?? Any advice??
  6. I too wanted to run a wire through the firewall but could not find a spot to drill for fear of ruining something. I ended up snaking the wire by the drivers door, through the rubber boot and into the interior by the drivers left hand foot. It wasn't perfect, but it worked.
  7. I too sent an e-mail on DEcember 19th, but I never heard back from him.
  8. It's located on the drivers side, between the drivers door and the rear wheel on the underside of the car. Very easy to see.
  9. $61.78 EACH!!! That is ridiculous. I don't want them that bad. They were tough to find on the website, so below is the link to them for a 1995 SC400. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...&model=Sc%20400
  10. I too am interested in a set. To my knowledge, they are not made. Searches on E-Bay and Lexus were fruitless. I ended installing a "generic" set on the back. Imust say they don't look too bad. But the front has a lot more bumps and curves so I was afraid the generic' would not look good. If you find them, let me know too.
  11. I just picked up a Audiovox PNP2 Sirius Satellite radio. I want it to look good when I install it and was wondering if anyone has pictures of their installation. A mention was made of Pro-Fit brackets, but I already have used a Pro-Fit bracket to install my cell phone mount. The cell phone is mounted to the right of the center console, so I am concerned that the Pro-Fit bracket for Satellite radio's might use the same position. If you could post a picture of your radio installation using a Pro-Fit bracket it would sure help. See the attached picture for my cell phone mount.
  12. Try good ol' kerosene. It will remove tar and probably the yellow paint. It will remove the wasx also, so you will need to re-wax it afterwards. I have used Kerosene on many occassions without paint damage.
  13. In other forums, you will find extensive info on this topic. But basically if your headlamps are yellowing, use 2000 grit sandpaper on them. This will remove the majority of the yellowing. Then polish with plastic polish. I did mine and they look like new!!!
  14. I would recommend a good coating of vaseline. It will prevent future corrosion.
  15. He did mean coolant, not freon. If your system is low on coolant, it's possible that your engine coolant is not flowing properly. This is what heats the car. Freon cools it. Did you try swapping the vacuum lines on the heater control valve?
  16. Here it is: While turning the car key from off to the start position, simultaneously hold the Temperature control knob and the recirculate button. The system will go into self diagnostic. It will automatically index through the various system settings and flash a code if there is a problem. Mine came up with a code 41, which means there was a problem with the air mix servo motor. If you do the test in low light, you may get a code 21, this is the solar sensor circuit and is nothing to worry about. Try the tests and let us know.
  17. It might be the air mix servo motor. You can run a self diagnostic using the system built into the radio. I forget the sequence of buttons you hold down while turning on the ignition. You should be able to look it up in threads over 30 days old. It could also be the control valve under the hood, passenger side, mounted n the firewall, near the top. It is very easy to reach. You can try swapping the vacuum lines to see if heat comes on. If not put them back the way they were and run the self diagnostic mentioned earlier. When you look up the old threads on this topic, they will list the trouble code that means the air mix servo motor it might be 21, but I'm not sure). My car had A/C but no heat and it turned out to be the servo motor. Lexus wanted over $2000.00 to repair. I did it for the cost of the part, about $125.00 if I remember correctly. If that's what it is, I can post more info on how to repair.
  18. I experience the same thing you describe. I have noticed that if I have the AC on and the windows closed, I never notice it. But, if I have the windows closed and I open the sunroof, it seems to pull the hot air up and out of the e-brake area. Try it and let me know.
  19. My 95 SC does not have a heat shield that I am aware of. The main reason they are installed is to prevent the battery from over heating. What most people don't know is that it is heat that destroys a battery, not cold. Your car will run fine without it, but your battery will most likely prematurely fail. It is difficult to say how much life you will lose. The fact that the earlier SC's don't appear to have them, leads me to believe that there may have been a warranty issue, so Lexus installed the heat shield.
  20. I don't know if the guy that installed the tires used a sealant or not. I would estimate that the tires had been on the car for at least 25k miles before any problems cropped up. In regards to the type of sealant, all I know is that it is black in color and pretty standard stuff. I've seen it at many tire stores.
  21. Funny you should bring this up. After owning my 95 SC400 for about a year and a half, all of the sudden I had three slow leaks from three different tires within a two week period. All of the leaks were due to the chrome peeling off of the lip of the rims. I brought them in for repair and they were able to polish the lips of the rim and then coat the edge of the tire with sealant stuff. Four weeks later all is OK. I am also in need of new tires and am waffling over whether to spend the extra big bucks for new rims or not!!!
  22. I purchased a rebuilt alternator, the same brand that Lexus uses. I think it's Denso, but don't quote me on that. I called Pep Boys and they installed it for like $75.00. It worked out fine.
  23. Look on E-Bay or even at Pep Boys, Auto Zone etc. for the "Dent King" or "Ding King". It costs about $20 bucks and it actually works. It pretty good at removing gentle dents, not creased ones. Rounded door dings are a good example. It completely removed some dings and lessened others. Either way it was worth the $20 bucks and you can use it over and over.
  24. Thanks for the input. I will start by looking under/in the center console first before I connect the 12V and ignition wires. I was most likely going to do them under the dash because that is where I wired in my remote starter/alarm. I'm just waiting for the custom bracket to come in, hopefully tomorrow. I will update with my progress. Thanks again!!
  25. Well, since no one else is replying, I will. I talked with a Verizon installer today and he was quite informative. The existing antenna wire will only pick up an analog signal, so I will have to install a new antenna wire and antenna. He recommended staying away from attempting to wire in the stereo for the sound. The speaker that comes with the kit works well he claims. I have ordered the custom bracket to mount the system on the right side of the console. So, hopefully I may give it a whirl this weekend. Feel free to comment.
