  1. Thanks Toysrme, - another question is your fan somewhat loud whenever it comes on, or does the noise increase upon acceleration, because mine will get louder even on the slightest touch of the gas pedal and begin to progressively get louder until aroun 2-2.5K rpm when it shifts to second. Thanks J
  2. Hey guys I've been searching on the site and have come to the conclusion that my gas mileage must suck. Right now my 92 es3 is getting only about 17mpg in about 70% city 30% highway driving. A normal tuneup was done recently (plugs/air filter, etc) but to no real avail in mpg improvement. There is one thing however that may be contributing: I have read the numerous posts about the transmission problems others have experienced, and though my tranny does not shift as rough as what many have posted, I feel that perhaps my throttle valve cable may be pulled out too far as at around 1200 rpm I can hear the fan whirring fairly loud as if the car was revved up higher than what the tach is showing. What do you guys think, should I check the TVC(and how should I go about this) or are there other reasons that I may be getting low mpg? Thanks J
  3. It was to my knowledge that the early ES3's had radiator problems if regular coolant flushing had not been done. You may just want to see if you are losing coolant through the radiator or a coolant hose. Also if you have a bad thermostat, it will not allow the coolant to flow through from the radiator to the engine. Hope this is of some help. J
  4. 90LS, if you are gettin a little shaky on your car's condition, I'll buy it off ya ;)
  5. Do a search under "transmission fluid change" in this forum, and that should get you a good start. It would be a good idea to have the car warmed up to operating temp when you remove the fluid so that it removes the most buildup, and you might check on doing a few flushes so that the trq conv. gets some fresh fluid, but I'd do a search and see what others have done, as I haven't done the change on my ES - just other cars, so you might see what others have said. Good luck. J
  6. sk - I got nothin but love for ya bro, you're hilarious in a good way and help out just about everybody in this forum, no matter what the issue is. I'm sure everybody in the club would agree that you are a huge help to those in need.
  7. I would think that an 8K cash offer would be good enough to gen a gen1 es300, even with under 100k. It seems like there is a lot of variation in price dependant upon where the car is being sold, as I'm sure that the cars are a bit more pricey in cali, but I think that, dependant upon year, 8 grand is a fair offer that a dealer would consider. J
  8. Hey guys, apparently I am incompetant, cuz I can't seem to get off the inside door panel. Do I have to remove the map light near the bottom of the door? I can see two clips/screws near the latch area and one screw on the opposite end, but can't seem to take'er off. Do I just need to pull on it harder or what? thanks guys J
  9. Bryan, you said you get about 30mpg in your ES, do you have any tricks to get this that you could pass along? Oh and SK, you crack me up. J
  10. Just checked out cars.com, and some dude in sacramento has an LS with 418k on it, that's crazy, and he still wants like 4500 for it! Just another testament to the reliability of a lex, esp an LS. I think that the reason that we don't see more of them with ridiculous amounts of miles is simply due to the fact that they've only been around for like 14 years, and the typical person would drive no where even close to that. What do you guys think, is the average LS that is maintained good to go for at least 300k and the only reason we don't see many at this range due to the fact that it hasn't been around for too long, or do you have another philosphy. Let's hear some opinions! J
  11. Bryan, you're the man, thanks for all the input, yeah reliability is pretty much a huge #1 for me(which is why I drive a Lex), I think I might just take a gamble if the guy lets it go cheap. Thx J
  12. Bryan & everybody else who replied; thanks a bunch for your input. Yeah, you guys are definitely right, I'll probably keep my lexus for sure, I guess what I am after is if anyone has heard any horror stories about the early 90's seville STS models, or has any good justifications as to why it isn't a good car, because I might just buy it anyway if the price is right. Thanks guys J
  13. Hey guys, I'm just wondering if you've heard anything on how the early 90's sevilles stack up against the es300, I've heard great things about both, and I own the es300, but am thinking about getting the caddy b/c of what kind of deal I can get on it, but then I may have to choose between the 2. Any advice would be great! Thanks
