  1. I actually ended up with Bridgestone re960's. I've only driven 50 miles or so on them, but so far a very smooth, low noise ride. A bit on the expensive side, but I've always liked bridgestone products and these don't appear to be a slide from their normal quality. Certainly better than the rubbish Dunlops the dealer wanted to put on.
  2. I had the fuel injection scrubbed of carbon buildup and purchased a new set of tires and the car drives like new. I took it on the highway and it was getting over 30 MPG (according to the computer, at least). It must have just been the combination of carbon build-up from the previous owner using 87 gas, the cruddy tires on the front, and brutal stop-and-go traffic in Chicago that was ruining my mileage. The dealer also replaced my brake pads because of the TSB for excessive dust.
  3. Dealership is saying that there's nothing mechanically wrong with it. Sensors are fine and the filter is clean. I need new tires and I drive in Chicago, so that combo must ruin mileage.
  4. Should I go with the OEM Dunlop SP 5000, or does anyone have a suggestion as to another to consider? I've heard mixed reviews on the OEM tires, so I was looking at Goodyear Eagle GT or maybe Yokohamas. I live in Chicago, so I need an all seasons tire. Thanks
  5. Get educated online as to what the going rate is for the car you want. Kbb.com and edmunds are both good resources. Once you get a bearing on what's a good deal and what isn't, I would suggest coming up with a number that you'd be very happy to pay for your new car (without being unreasonable). Car salesmen rarely have anything resembling stones; they're looking for an easy take, so if you show them right away that you're educated and you have a pair you can push them around with ease. Be up front and tell the salesperson your magic number and that if he hits it, you'll buy the car today.
  6. Computer is saying so, but my needle is moving rather quickly, so I'm tending to believe it. It has 47,000 miles on it. Wow. First I would fill her up and drive till very emtpy and calculate yourself. If you still get the same results i'd take it in to the dealer. Could be a number of things....one being a bad 02 sensor but you should get a "check engine" light for that. Something else that might not trigger a warning would be a clogged fuel filter. Other common culprits are worn out spark plugs and plug wires, dirty air filter, mass airflow sensor, brake caliper or cylinder not fully retracting. A short list of the many possibilities. But with 47k miles I would bet it would be the fuel filter. These other problems tend to be with waaaaay higher miles. Thanks. Since you mention the brake cylinder not retracting, I actually have been noticing a lot of brake dust. I just cleaned my wheels a week ago and they are already covered in dust. I have booked an appointment with the dealer since it's still under warranty, but I'm still curious as to what the heck could cause this.
  7. Computer is saying so, but my needle is moving rather quickly, so I'm tending to believe it. I live in Chicago and all my driving is stop & go, so that will obviously have something to do with it, but it shouldn't be THAT bad. It has 47,000 miles on it.
  8. I have a 2006 IS 250 AWD and I have been getting terrible gas mileage lately (~15). I just pulled my air filter and it is totally clean - it is by no means a performance part, but it is clean - so I have no idea what else could be causing such a drop in mileage. Any ideas?
  9. I'm noticing a very slow leak of some sort of fluid from under the front end of my 99. Only problem is that I can only see it keeping the frame crossbar moist, not the actual source. As best i can tell it's located on the right side, directly beneath the oil filter and the starter. When I put a drop on my finger it appeared very dark-almost black, and when it was on a cloth it looked as if it had kind of a yellow-ish gold tint to it, yet still very dark. My steering, washer, and coolant reservoirs are all full and my oil is both full and clean, not black. My only thought is that it may be tranny fluid, but that's usually pink, right? Any ideas on A) what this might be and B) how I can find the source of the leak to get it fixed?
  10. What kind of a question is that? Do posters now need a reason to ask a valid question in this forum?? :( Thanks...
  11. Because the unit fits into my car and works, but doesn't give me sound. I'm wondering if that plug is the reason.
  12. Does anyone know what plugs into the blue jack on the back of this cd player out of a 2000 es300?
  13. :o What was the problem with the old changer ?, Why was it replaced ? Where did you get the replacement ? etc... We'll go from there.......................... The old changer was completely broken. It didn't even register in the stereo, and wouldn't spit out my CD magazine. I opened it up to get the mag out and found a few small broken parts. I bought this new one off ebay, and it's supposed to work in my 99 even though it's from a 00...it fits perfectly and plays the discs, I just don't get any sound. I'm pretty convinced that it has something to do with the blue plug jack in the back that i have nothing to fill with. Is that the amp jack or something? What do you think? Thanks for the help.
  14. I plugged in the replacement (OEM) player and the screen shows the disc playing, but no sound. Could that have anything to do with a little blue plug hole in the back of the player? I'm pretty lost on this one. Thanks.
  15. I have a 99 ES300 and am currently looking for a replacement CD changer, as my original crapped out. Will a changer off an 01 model work, even though it has what looks to be an amp jack in the back and my car has no plug for that? I don't think it'll make a difference, but just checking anyways. Thanks.
