  1. Here's what I did to resolve this issue. Took out the DVD, cleaned it with a good cloth. took the system out and retightened everything. Only happened two times since then. Appears to be a dvd issue, possible dust is getting in there somehow and causing it not to spool properly at start-up
  2. I have the exact same issue, same 01 LS430 with a 05 DVD with no mods. This weekend I'll be taking the unit out and cleaning the DVD to see if it helps. I'll also make sure it has a good mount and connections. I'll let you know how it goes.
  3. you can get the chip sent out and modified to correct value for about $400
  4. Falken D512s. Great tire for the price. rated #1 @ Consumer Reports
  5. I had some grease monkeys put the power steering fluid instead of ATF and it started to leak because of the viscosity different, they're close but not the same. I had to drain the power steering pump myself but I got it done. This was on my SC400 and almost destroyed the alternator.
  6. I replaced mine with Michelin Pilots. The funny part was that NTB had them cheaper than Tirerack. The car rides so much smoother now. Just get AAA just in case you get a flat..you figure the run flats get you 15k miles max while these should get about double at more than half the price. My $.02
  7. the runflats on the SC430 only last 12k-15k miles, this is normal. When I went to the dealership they recommended non run flat Michelin Pilot AS tires. I've already put a set on a SC430 and it has made a world of difference. Better ride and last 3 times longer. ← BETTER NOT GET A FLAT WHILE OUT OF CELL PHONE COVERAGE! ← AAA cost $50 a year..at that rate you would save 4 runflats = $1500 * 3 (since the Michelins will get about 3 times the wear) = $4500 - $1000 (for the Michellin Pilots) = $3500. Considering I drive about 30K a year that's $17500 over 5 years. For that you can get a spare kit, AAA, a Ducati 996 and still have money to go on vacation.
  8. I picked the correct DVD @ Bobby Rayhal Lexus in PA for $250.00. Best price I've seen..and it's a legit Lexus dealership. The funny part is that a '03 DVD went for $225 on Ebay and this was the latest greatest.

  10. I have a Valentine One and a K40 in my LS430. I've ran them side by side and the Valentine is the better of the two and a fraction of the price. The V1 is good on KA and Laser and will tell you where the signal is coming from with how many bogeys (signals). I haven't had a speeding ticket for about 4 years with this one and I do about 50k miles per year on major highways.
  11. The ones on Ebay are for Gen IV systems and their blems that Lexus stopped selling. For Gen III systems they go over $200 and that's for 2003 DVDs.
  12. $345 is way too high. Found a dealer in PA that sells it for $250 in Carlisle, PA. Their prices for everything else is also a lot cheaper than any dealer I've been to in PA, MD, or NY
  13. Well, i can tell you what the insurance paid for mine when it was totaled about a month ago. 95 SC400, white, with 240k miles on it. The other guys insurance paid me $12,000 for it. This should be a good estimate for 'wholesale value'
  14. There's one in Reisterstown on Main Street, accross from Friendly's...the name escapes me. The guy that owns it worked for Lent Stoller Lexus before he opened it up. It's the cheapest place in town but at least they know the product and don't charge dealer rates.
  15. This is for a Gen IV system, it will not work. Hi, I also have a 2001 LS430 with navigation. I just bought an updated DVD disk version 3.2 but I am having problems updating. When I put in this new disk, a message comes up on the navigation display saying" Read disk error. Check your disk". I made sure the new disk (v3.2) was clean but got this error message in all 3 tries. When I put in the old disk (v2000.1); everything worked fine just like before. digital_b, could you please give me more information about what you said about required programming by the dealer? Did you have this done? How much did it cost you? Any help/pointer from any forum user is greatly appreciated. ←
  16. I just did this last week..took a whole 5 minutes. take out two screws, lift DVD player, click eject. Put in new DVD, let it program (Japanese characters are cool). Once done it will tell you. Cost = $250 for DVD from dealer. The dealer that tells you that they have to do it is either a numskull or a ripoff arist. Did my accross the street from the dealer in the Ollie's parking lot, used the screwdriver with in the Lexus toolkit My $.02 mine is a 2001 as well and YOU CANNOT upgrade it yourself. later model years you can but for 2001 there is programming that the dealer has to do. it does store your current settings though and updates the graphics and POI listings et al. ←
  17. The quote in Russian says that the car suffered for no fault of its own.
  18. This is normal wear for that tire. Swap it out with the Michelin Pilot AS tires and save about $125 per tire and get 20k miles more. Use $50 to get AAA if you have a flat.
  19. I believe 3.2 is for Gen IV systems. 2001-2003 is for Gen III, just picked up the latest update .04 is the latest. Make sure the second set of #s on the CD is 3303x not 3304x which is gen iv Hi, I also have a 2001 LS430 with navigation. 20. I just put these on my car about 3k miles ago. The handling is great with these although there may be a just a tad bit road noise but this is because they are W and Lexus recommends 35psi instead of the normal 32psi..at least on the 225/55/17s. Everything else about these tires is great, a lot better in snow, rain, and dry then the stock tires. These were rated by Consumer Reports as a good buy. Paid $392 with s/h quote=cenwesi,Feb 17 2005, 01:52 PM] Just like the subject said. Who has it on their ls430 and what can you tell me about this tire. I want something that is QUITE and Smooth. ←
  21. What probably happened is that when he put in an update DVD it did not upgrade..most likely put in a Gen IV DVD that is not compatible. Since the system wasn't upgraded the initial DVD was probably put back in but needed to be reset by the system. I know that if you have an 03 and put in 04 it will work, I think that once you upgrade from the original 01 all the flash on the system is reprogrammed and the system won't read the old DVD. Most likely way to get the system to read the old DVD is to reset the EEPROM on the system..not sure how to do that. My $.02
  22. Found a dealer in PA that has the 4.1 DVD Upgrade DVD for GenIII Systems (2001-2003) for $250.00 Found it @ Bobby Rahal Lexus - 717 691 0500 I was in PA on business and found this dealer by accident. The Maryland delears had it for 60-100% of this price Len Stoller - $350 Annapolis Lexus - $500 Silver Spring - $400 These guys said that they will deliver if it's a phone order. The guys were great and their prices on other items were 40% cheaper than any dealer in MD.
  23. Got my 2001 LS430 @ Manheim in Sept. Sport suspension, 57k miles, navi and the most important thing...all service records. Paid about $32k with auction fees. Best time to go is when they have Lexus offlease cars and it's better to go every other Thursday when they have their highline auction..less lanes and more selection...leftovers get sent to Friday's auction. My $.02
  24. Want to hear something funny. When I had my 1995 SC400 I didn't change the tranny oil for over 200k miles and it worked just fine. Same with my crown vic that had 350k miles. And no I didn't do any trasmissions overhauls either...
  25. I'm in a 2001 LS430 for a few months now but the last two were SC400s 1995 SC400 - 257K miles before some idiot ran into it and wrecked it 1992 SC400 - 150K miles, family member hit a deer with it 1990 VW Corrado, 4 banger superchaged, electrical garbage made me get rid of it 1985 LTD Crown Vic. Police Option - 385K miles when the intake manifold went out 1996 Suzuki GSXR 750 1992 Honda CBR 600 1990 Suzuki GS500 1984 Kawasaki Ninja 900 The bikes are always more fun..40 miles per gallon and hp/weight makes it much faster than just about any car on the road
