  1. Dumb question, but are you possibly hitting the "set" button on your steering wheel? If it's preset at it's highest volume, when you hit it, it'll jump like you explain... many times the "set" button is preset to the highest volume level by the dealer (on purpose, maybe?). To change the volume level on the "set" button, just find the level you want it to jump to and them hold the "set" button till it beeps and let go.
  2. WOW! with everyone who mods their wheels/tires on this forum, i don't get any input at all??
  3. You want to be the guinea-pig for us with your $65K++ car???? Find someone with a '76 Pinto and try it on that vehicle first....
  4. Mine got stuck 1/3 way open about a year ago. I didn't want to mess with it, so I took it into the Lexus Dealer and they fixed it in an hour at no charge.....
  5. I'd like input from those of you who have upgraded to either 19" or 20" wheels/tires. I cannot decide which size to upgrade to. I'd like to fill the wheel-wells fully, so spacer and stagger info would also be helpful. I'm going with forged wheels and most likely Michelin Pilot Sports, which, from reading past forums, sound like the best tires for our SC's.... also would like to hear about coil-over and shock/spring setups, too. (Right now my suspension is totally stock.) I live in Chicago, and the roads are in pretty bad shape overall, so maybe 19" with a slightly larger aspect ratio would be the smarter choice? (I switch to stock wheels w/snow tires in the winter.) Any input is appreciated. THANKS!
  6. Just don't use a home made CD with a label stuck on it... it'll come unpeeled in the player and jam the whole unit. (Speaking from experience...)
  7. My '02's trunk struts went bad 2yrs ago and I replaced them with a new pair (like those on ebay) and it took less than 10 minutes... still have a couple dents in my head, though.
  8. H Aquanuke, When you debadged the center logo on the trunk, were there 2 holes to fill, or was it just stuck on like the other logos? I left mine alone, since I thought it was drilled into the lid. Also, where did you get the blacked out sidelights? Thanks.
  9. My wife's '06 LX 2nd row passenger-side seatback makes the most annoying squeaky-rattle noise whenever we're moving, at any speed. I'm now driving it with the seat back folded down, which stops the noise, but obviously isn't the ideal fix. Anyone who has/had this problem please chime-in. I haven't yet taken it into the dealership; if there's an easy fix, I'd rather do it myself.... This is my first visit to the LX forum; I drive an SC430... sorry if this is a commonly-discussed topic, but I scanned through the FAQ and didn't see anything discussed about it... Anyone who has/had this problem please chime-in. Also would like to know if a cold-air intake would give the truck any noticeable power increase or not, and if yes, what's the best product to buy? Any input would be appreciated.
  10. Many thanks. I've already emailed Millen. Does the GS430 LSD and TC stuff bolt on to our SC's w/out mods needed? Regards.
  11. Hi Auqanuke, While investigating the torque converter/lsd subject, a few friends have commented about losing that Lexus silky-smooth shifting if I change them.... what's your feeling, since you've got both installed on your SC ? I don't mind giving up SOME of the smoothness, but I don't want to end up with a muscle-car-jolt type of gear-shifting :o .... Also open to anyone else's opinion on the subject. Thanks.
  12. I've had all 3 colors, with 3 black cars and loved all of them, though black shows dirt much more than the others... silver shows dirt the least and white is a close 2nd (Yes, I keep my car clean, but I DO live in Chicago). The lighter leather will also show dirt/wear more over time; my old SC400 had it and it really picked up the black from my leather driving coat, and it wasn't easy to keep clean. My current SC is the same colors as Aquanuke's, and it's my favorite so far... hey Aquanuke: do you ever go to sleep? :D
  13. hi, how do i unplug the battery?the battery under the hood? Yes, the battery under the hood. It ended up not working for me either time, and as mine could not be fixed - the cds all jammed together as they were mass-manufactured recordable cds - I pleaded hardship at the dealer and they took a couple hundred off the price, put in a rebuilt - remember, there are no longer any new produced - replaced the blown speaker, and I am SO loving my sound system. Hi- Just to chime in, last year my cd changer jammed, too. I ended up fixing it myself, though it wasn't by finesse, by any stretch; the culprit was a home-made cdr that had a do-it-yourself label stuck on it. The label got hot inside the changer, allowing it to 'soften'... causing a full jam of all the discs. NOTHING would work with the CD player; I couldn't play, shuffle or eject any of the 6 discs inside. I could just barely see the edge of the top disc through the loading slot, and I used a dull box-cutter blade to <GENTLY> prod the disc... it came out about a millimeter or so and I was able to grab it with some needle-nose plyers and yank it out. Once I turned the car on again (never disconnected the battery) the changer made a bunch of whirring noises, calmed down, and when I hit eject, IT EJECTED !! It's worked fine since, and I no longer put cd's w/home-made labels in it anymore. I DO, however, use cdr's w/out labels all the time and have never had a problem with them.... hope this helps.
  14. A torque convertor is what sends the power to the transmission in autos and a higher stall speed lets the engine rev higher with less rev drops between shifting. Ive got the Lextreme TC which also does not put the CEL on (check engine light) http://www.lextreme.com/tc.html and theres also the Dragon PI one which is more expensive and supposedly gets more performance but will put the CEL on. http://www.l-tunedparts.com/product/?id=3 The Supra limited Slip Diff will bolt straight onto an SC430 and will help you off the line and through the gears. Also Toms make an LSD. http://www.l-tunedparts.com/product/?id=2257 THANK YOU!! I'm already investigating.... I really appreciate it. -Steve
  15. The only chip Im aware of is the Jet one http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?pid=14...model=1008#1008 But dont expect any real gains typically 10bhp from a non-turbo engine. If you want real performance gains on the cheap then consider. Intake + exhaust S&S headers Torque convertor Supra LSD If you want to spend more then consider FI, supercharged or turbo. THANKS! I already have the intake, exhaust and headers... what will a torque converter do for me, and can you recommend a brand for my car, and also, what is a Supra LSD? Thanks again, -Steve
