  1. Just got back from a trip and noticed a dragging noise coming from the rear left tire which sounded like the muffler was dragging. Got to my house and check the problem and a small piece of metal was hanging down...after futher inspection, I noticed it was connected to the suspension. I'm thinking that it either the sway bar or sway bar link. How often do sway bars break on a Lexus and if so, are they an easy fix? Also, if it is the sway bar, what are the pros and cons of driving without one? Let me know and provided tutorials so I can fix this. Thanks for all your help.
  2. Sad to say that I have to get the control arms & balls joints replaced soon. My mechanic quoted me $678 (parts & labor included). I'll put a bug in his ear about putting grease fitting on. this will keep me from paying alot of $ over a period of time. thanks for the tip.

I agree...there is no way that your car should start having multiple problems since you took it in just to get one fixed...I usually ask them to show me the old part that they replace and show me the new part and then ask them to give me the old part just to make sure that they are replacing the old parts....but you may not be that extreme but I am. most of us who drive a Lexus have to be careful because these boot-leg mechanics be thinking dollar signs when they see us coming in...protect yourself as best you can and if need be, get another honest more competant mechanic....Good Luck...
  4. My 91 LS 400 usually idles @ 1000 RPMS...but I noticed that this week is has dropped to 400 RPMS and it still starts strong, runs strong and doesn't shut off...should I be worried or concerned? Is it an engine problem or do I need a tune up or wires replaced or checked....? Has anyone had this problem and it so, how did they get it fixed..?
  5. I just wanted to know if you had to upgrade your brakes since you put on a bigger rim? I'm thinking about doing 19's....also did you upgrade your shocks as well???? BTW...they do look nice...congrats.... B)
  6. I thought about it, but my 91 LS400 still runs beautiful at 231K miles...aside from regular maintenance and parts upgrades and replacement, it still rides and runs like a charm...
  7. Ok...checked the ignition switch and it's fine....I did have a code 25 pop up but I don't think that has anything to do with the ignition. Any suggestions?

  9. Ok..I have a 91 LS400 with about 231K miles. As I pulled up at my house and turned off the motor, I heard a small rumble. I put my ear to the dash and thought 4 a sec that it was the fans from the engine. So I exited the car and then put my ear to the hood. I decided to pop the hood and to my surprise the engine was still running without the key in the ignition. I turned the key off and on several times and the engine still was running. So I got my wrench and disconnected the battery cable and the engine stopped. I have never had this problem b-4 so can you guys/gals give me an idea of what's wrong and what repairs are required if any and how much...? As always, your help is greatly appreciated....
  10. I started using sync when my car got to 150K and I use the Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30. I am going to start using the AMSOIL products because I have researched their products and I liked that they have many products for your car. I have noticed that since using sync, my car does seem to run better and I have been able to drive my car with extended drain intervals which has saved me money and maintenance....but if you want to keep using regular oil and it hasn't caused you any problems then stay with what works for you...

I would not go to Jiffy Lube...they did an oil change for me and left off the oil dipstick...got oil all over the underside of my hood...luckly no damage was done to my engine but that type of stuff should never ever happen....in addition to that, my mechanic does my tranny flush and fill with gasket and filter included WITH OEM TRANS FLUID for $80....hope this helpl....
  12. I took my car to my mechanic because my check engine light came on and a code 25 came up...what does this code mean? Has it something to do with the EFI or O2 Sensors. I just had 2 catalyic coverters replaced in Apr '09 and the O2 sensors are brand new. My car gets good gas mileage and I had the trans flushed and filled, regular preventive maintenance and I do honestly need to schedule the car for it's annual tune-up. Please help with this issue and all opinions and answers will be appreciated.
  13. I had my mechanic replace 2 of my catalyic coverters on my 91 LS400 for a flat $500...this also included the o2 sensors as well....btw, they are walker's....

If it's any consulation to you, I've had my 91 LS 400 since I graduated college back in 91...so I guess that gives you and idea of my age... <_< ...but to me, I like both--but if you have a heavy foot, want a sporty look and like excellent grip when you are in the corners, then get a BMW...but if you like a smooth reliable luxuary car with speed and power, then the LS 430 is an excellent choice...but whatever decision you make, you can't go wrong with either...good luck...

  16. It is rare and supadupa nice--but the dealer is getting greedy with what he wants 4 the car...and I'm considering either trading in my 91 LS 400 or keeping it just because I've had it since 91...but in your case go ahead with the upgrade...trust me, you won't regret it...
  17. <_< .... <_< that sucks...my subwoofer still works so that approach won't work for me IS400... oh well...let me start looking for a loccksmith...hopefully I can get a good price since this car is so complicated....wish me luck... B)
  18. I did a test drive on a LS 430 and I am seriously considering upgrading from my 91 LS 400...I had the Ultra Package on an 06 with 41K...More power, more luxary, more everything. I will be upgrading to 430--it will be worth the money....
  19. I have the same problem as well....the key will not unlock the security lock by the steering wheel and also the trunck release will not engage or work as well....plus I cannot use the key to open the trunck....anybody got some suggestions to fix this?
  20. Well, I have a problem kinda of similar but may be off topic. My heat doesn't work at all,and no matter how high I set my Temperature, i still have no heat-- but my T-STAT is not broken...could be a sensor that needs to be repalced or will I have to rip out the dash to fix the problem...? if anyone has a suggestion, please let me know....

  22. Yeah i am sure i will, It will just be on the down low, and while all eyes are on the STI's and honda's with those loud chrome exhausts . I just test drove a '06 LS 430 2day with the Ultra Luxary Package and I was so impressed....I have 2 admit that it begs U 2 open it up and open it up I did...the ride is so plush and this car is so stocked with options that it makes u wonder why would u want 2 drive anything else...trust me, this car is worth the dollars that u will spend....
  23. I am looking to upgrade from a 91 LS 400 to a LS 430...I just wanted to know what model year is the best to buy? As far as the MB E320, it's kinda old but MB has done some new upgrades to the car. But as far as that model year and based on specs, performance, customer satisfaction, etc. I would definitely get the LS 430.
