  1. The Factory Service manual for 1992 SC400 has the same statement : "Pistons are made of high temperature-resistant aluminum alloy, and a depression is built into the piston head to prevent interference with valves" Page EM-4
  2. Discounttoyotaparts.com sells oem for $154 if you buy Lexus parts number or $145 if you buy exact same part as Toyota parts number (Toyota Supra used this part). 1992 parts number is 37511-24010 -- "Flexible Coupling" (leave out hyphen when entering parts number in parts catalog section). Toyota oem rubber parts are gold standard -- better than aftermarket.
  3. Some of your symptoms are consistent with coil failure. Search for prior threads on coil failure. If one coil (out of two) goes out, your engine will run verrrry rough, because it is operating on four cylinders instead of eight, but will allow the car to go forward. The other four cylinders will have raw unburned gas coating spark plugs, destroying catalysts (very expensive), etc. Worth checking out. Coils are easy to get to, and you can check the coil and wire easily with an ohmmeter. Email me at dickevans@aol.com if you need factory specs.
  4. I am concerned that the engine may be severely damaged if the timing belt goes out on my 1992 SC400. I think some posts indicate this is a problem for later SC's, but want to be sure I am not facing serious problems if I delay replacing the timing belt (water pump, etc., etc.) for a couple of months. Thanks for any insight you can give me.
  5. I suggest you get a locksmith to try to remove the ignition switch and unjamb it. I recently had a similar problem with my SC400 -- paid to have it towed to dealer, replaced ignition switch (very expensive), forced to buy new key, new key cut by locksmith to old pattern, new ignition switch set to old pattern so old keys would work -- $600 in total. Then I asked for old ignition switch, which they gave me, and it now worked smoothly with old keys!! It had just gotten jambed up somehow.
