I have a1997 ES300 with the 7 speaker system (pioneer) well i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the rear deck sub out, i want to replace it with a better one. i tried to pry gently on the cover and it didnt move nor did i force it. i have a chiltons maual that addresses removing the high mount brake light that is back there and cannot figure how to get that out either. it staes instuctions for toyota camrys and avalons which i assume they are thinking are the same as the lexus es300. i looked behind the head rests of the seats and see no levers or anything to lower them, looking thru the trunk there is what i think is a factory amplifier fro the sub and i see (4) sets of threads coming from what would be the 4 corners of the sub, but i only see the threads, the heads of them are underneath the speaker cover in the car! can someone please give me a simple solution to where to start with this, i cannot even figure out how to get the high mount brake light out.

i have a 1997 es300 i drained and filed the trans before, but now want to drain and fill the differential, there is a seperate drain plug and a seperate fill plug, because these are sperate units. takes about a quart from what i read. i was told that you can pull the drain plug to drain it, but do not have to use the filler hole to fill it, that you can use the tranny dip stick tube and once you start the car the fluid will then mix itself. IS THIS TRUE? i was told this by a mechanic at the toyot dealer. i dont wanna drain the differential, not use the filler hole and run the risk of funning it dry. its a pain to get to that filler hole underneath the car so the tranny filler tube would be much easier if this is true.

i have a 1997 es300 i want to drain and refill the coolant , i have a chiltons manual that shows a picture of a coolant drain plug on the engine block on the front side of the block it is easy to see and get to, however it states there is a drain plug on each side of the block? doe sanyone know where this other plug is because i cant find it. i removed the air cleaner assembly to get a better look back there and still couldnt see anything. another question the plug i do see looks as if it could be threaded out of the block but there is another screw in the top of it, which one do i turn to drain the coolant, any pics would help as well, thank you.

i know when my timing belt went on my toyota tercel years ago, it would just crank and not start, but also the car just shut off on me while i was driving. could be that or fuel pump, could actually be alot of things, you are gonna have to play with it.

That's called a flush, and I DO NOT recommend it on a high mileage vehicle. The process can, and often does break loose deposits that have built up inside the transmission over years and this can lead to transmission failure in the near future. A drain and fill is the way to go. You might be right. Similar saying as why some people do not switch to synthetic oil. But I think it depends on car and luck. Some mechanic once told me that they had a car with transmission that did not work at all. They did the flush, and car started driving. Yes drain/fill is probably best, but for others flush through dip stick works too. In end there is no real wrong way of doing it. hi its sugetherookielexusowner! not so much a rookie now though, i have a 1997 es300 with 73k on it. and i just changed the fluid/ drain and fill only and the differential which has a seperate drain plug and filler plug! the diif. takes about a quart and i drained a little less than 3 qts outta the trans so u need no more than 4-5 qts total, after that u are wasting money. make sure u get "new" "crush" washers at the dealer/2 $ each for the plugs once u tighten them back up, the old ones might not seal right and they dont recommend using the old ones. USE ONLY TOYOTA DEXRON 3, NOT THE TOYOTA TYPE T-IV, they are not compatible and the right one is the dexron 3.

Radio Code For 1997 Es300
sugetherookielexusowner replied to sugetherookielexusowner's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
how do you know this, curious -
i bought my 1997 es300 from the original owner 1 month ago. i read a post on here that someone needs a code to reset the radio after replacing the battery? do you even need the code on earlier models? i spoke with the original owner today and they told me they never set a code and were never even asked to when they bought the car. i even have a receipt that they gave me showing they replaced the battery at the lexus dealer about 1.5 years ago, they said the dealer didnt even mention a radio code. im just wondering for the future since i do alot of my own work is it necessary i have this code? would if the battery dies and u need a jump start, do you need the code then, it just seems like alot to go through. i called the dealer and they ran the vin number and came up with nothing.

sugetherookielexusowner replied to mrsel3's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
1993 es300 and 46 years young { my wife } I have the 1998 gs300 also 46. im almost 37 with my 1997 es300 with 73k, like a brand new car, dealer mechanic said he was afraid to sit in it. older folks just take care of our stuff, i bought it from a lady that was born in 1940. -
i have a 1997 es300 and want to drain and fill the automatic transmission differential. i did the trans already and it was simple. i know where the drain and fill plugs are on the differential, but want to know since the fill hole is on the side does anyone have any easy suggestion that wouldnt make a mess to fill the diff. since you just cant pour it in being that the hole is on the side. i was told the diff. and the trans are 2 seperate units and have to be filled seperately, also read this in a book.

Blower Speed Mystery Solved

hey i have a 97 es 300 and just did the drain and fill last week , on the bottom of the trans pan there is a screw in bolt that is round all the way around and has a recessed hex head in the middle so you will need the special socket its a 10mm recessed hex head (like 5$ at sears), i suggest using a half inch drive socket just to get a little more torque so you can break it loose. i jacked my car up on the passenger side and slid under, i figured it would drain better to that side. be careful once you loosen the bolt the fluid starts to come out right away so have your pan ready. IMPORTANT*** THERE IS AN ALUMINUM "CRUSH WASHER that seals the bolt when you put the bolt back in and tighten it after you drain the flluid. i was told everytime you drain the fluid you should use a brand new "crush washer" 2$ at the dealer, i get a few at a time. i have drained my honda several times as well and always use a new washer. i just dont like to take chances of maybe getting a leak. 3 qts came out and i refilled it with toyota dexron-mercon #3 (3.23$) per qt. i think thats cheaper than auto parts store. i like to use dealer fluid the best. its very simple, i may do it again just to have a more fresher fluid overall.

I don't know why that would happen either. Maybe there is some sort of blockage inside the dipstick tube? Perhaps next time try warming the ATF a bit (submerge the container/s in a bath of hot tap water for a few minutes to warm it up) just before you pour it into the funnel. This might help to thin the ATF a little so it will flow down the tube easier. Might be worth a try. Just make sure you don't get any water in the container/s and be sure to dry the outside of the container/s off with a towel first so there is no water than could drip into the funnel as you're pouring. Good tip Lexucan. Would prob speed things up. Definitely easier to do fluid changes in warmer weather. thanks guys , i definitely cant possibly overfill with this problem, if its a problem, the car runs fine, its absolutely a dream to drive , the mechanic at the toyota dealer went over it with me, let me get under it with him and all. he showed me a few ins and outs, he said i got a real steal from the original owner only 73k on it, she had the timing belt done at 62k and the breaks, all her work has been done at the lexus dealer. she even had the sticker that comes in the window in the glove box, 36 k she paid. he did say that the rear sway bar bushings should be replaced, other than that A-1.
