  1. There is an "LSB 0090-09" listed under the "correction" for the issue. The tech wrote "cause - internal short".
  2. DavidN - Thanks for the advice. I did look them up on America's Tire (which coincidentally is where I bought them) and there were hundreds of reviews. I only read the first few dozen and in there was someone complaining of losing 2 MPG. In all my years...that's the last thing I considered when buying tires....go figure.
  3. Hi Everyone, Thought I would update everyone on my XM issue in case anyone else is having it. After 6 trips to the dealer and a complaint to Lexus and consulting a lemon law attorney (a friend), I think they fixed it. The dealer insisted that there is no known issue regarding the sound going out with the reception still on. I finally got it to do it in front of them and they acknowledged the issue. The replaced my radio and not the XM transmitter. Two weeks later...same problem. They just replaced the XM transmitter and informed me that there is a known issue (Technical Bulletin) on the XM transmitter but that they never knew because they only found out when they called Lexus (after 5 visits?). So if you are having this issue, you have to fight and threaten until they respond. I also video taped the issue with my phone for proof as my next step was going to be to threaten to use the lemon law for action (I told this to the service writer). Keep in mind, I was taking this extreme measure since they refused to fix the issue as they claimed since they couldn't see it, it wasn't an issue.
  4. Hi Everyone, I just hit the 30K mark on my '08 GS305 and had to get new tires and did the 30K service. I decided to change the air filters on my own as the dealer charged ridiculous prices for the filters (i.e. $105 for the cabin air filter installed). I bought a Fram cabin air filter and a Fram engine air filter. When I put in the Fram cabin filter (it was one of those with the baking soda added to freshen the air for $20.00 and it was much thicker material than the OEM) it seemed to cut down the air flow for the A/C and also made a whistling sound in the glove box. I tried flipping and same result. I ended up exchanging it for a plain filter that looked very similar to the Lexus one for $10.99 and it works great. My real question is this...after installing the Fram Engine Air Filter...I've noticed my gas mileage has gone down (according to the Avg MPG display in the car). I'm averaging about 1.5 MPG less per tankful. I'm wondering if the engine filter is also restricting air like the cabin filter? Now I also changed tires for Michelins but I can't imagine that has anything to do with it. I used to use Fram for everything in the old days when I used to service my own car (many years ago)and never had issues. Has anyone heard of any issues? I'm considering switching the air filter for a K&N but read a rating on Amazon that someone had their "MAF" on their GS350 (I'm guessing Mass Airflow Meter?") go out because of the oil. I've used K&N in many cars and never had a problem. Any thoughts?
  5. Well I went in and saw where I can adjust the "smog" setting. The factory setting was in the middle so I left it like that. I called the dealer and got the explanation I expected: "It's normal for the "auto" light to turn off randomly, the system will do what it wants and there is no logic to it...that's the way it's designed". I doubt an engineer designed a feature to operate randomly...but that's a par answer for the Lexus Service dept I use.
  6. Hi Everyone, I have an 08 GS350 and this is more bothersome than it is an issue but does anyone know why when I set my vent to "auto" (the fresh air vs. recirculate) it stays on auto for a few days (switching back and forth to recirculate and fresh air by itself) and then it switches to manual fresh air by itself? I don't make any changes to the system and the overall system setting is set to "auto". The manual does not address this specific issue. I know if I call the dealer they will say "that's the way it's supposed to work". But what bothers me is that it seems to reset randomly. Sometimes it resets over days and sometimes it resets after a few hours. Thanks.
  7. I have an 08 GS 350 with a similar problem. It's happened about 6 times when I leave work from an underground garage with the radio on. I get no reception when I'm on the street or choppy signal. The "no signal" warning never comes on the screen. I have to turn the car on and off for the XM to work again. Of course the dealer has never heard of this and when I asked them about it, they said "gosh that would require a lot of work and we would have to dedicate one tech to your car for a day!". I had to laugh and told them I would wait for it to happen again and come back. It hasn't happened in months.
  8. I have an 08 GS 350 and have the same black area on the bottom right corner of the screen. I took it to the dealer and was told the same thing as I never noticed it when I bought the car new. I posted this a while back on this forum with a picture.
  9. Hi Everyone, I might be going crazy but I recently noticed that the image from the backup camera on my 08 GS350 looks like it shifted or has an obstruction on the bottom right edge. I swear I never noticed the black area down there before. I took it to the dealer and of course they said it looks perfectly normal. There is a chance that I simply never noticed it since I recently bought the car - new. I'm attaching a picture of the screen, please look at the bottom edge and right bottom edge and if you have a 08 GS350, please let me know if you see the same thing. The dealer said they checked two in the back and they looked the same. I should have asked to verify.
  10. If you drive a lot of mileage and have decided on a extended warranty, I would recommand a Lexus platnium extended warranty. The Lexus warranty is a peace of mind compare to aftermarket warranties. With the aftermarket warranties, the company have to approve the repair before the work is done, that process can sometimes take a long time or deny altogther. There are also issues such as the comapny going out of business. What happens if a part fail and cause other part to fail as a result, many aftermarket warranty will only cover the original part that fail and will leave you with the bill for the other parts that fail due to the original failure. If you do some research on the intenet, you can buy a Lexus warranty pretty close to that price you got from the credit union. Thanks...great point. I looked up Toby Rivers from one of the posts on this topic and sent him a message. Any other resources would be appreciated. RR.
  11. You are correct, it covers parts failures and not rattles or cosmetics. I drive about 20,000 miles per year so I figure my warranty will expire in 2.5 years. The extended warranty would carry me for the additional 50K miles which would buy me about 2.5 more years of coverage. I've read the policy and it covers just about everything with the exception of items that normally wear. Too many details to get into the coverage on forum.
  12. Well the dealer said it was bumper to bumper but I didn't get far enough to read the actual cover and exclusions. The policy I'm looking at covers a great deal except most wear and tear parts.
  13. I recently bought an 08 GS 350 after having owned several German cars that were not very reliable. I went with Lexus because of reliability and resale value. After reading all the complaints about rattles, squeaks and mechanical problems, I'm considering buying the extended warranty. The dealer offered one for $2500 which I passed on and instead I'm considering one from my credit union for $715 (supreme policy with $200 deductible, 5 year 100K miles). Any thoughts, comments on extended warranties would be appreciated. I've followed the philosophy of not buying warranties when buying a "reliable brand" but all these comments have me reconsidering...especially for $715.
  14. I had my windows tinted and was worried that the tint would interfere with the rear sensor but it appears that all is well. I was disappointed that the phone book from my iPhone won't transfer to the car but I can live with it.
  15. Hello Everyone, Just picked up a new 08 GS350 and noticed that when I set the clock to set automatically, it's one hour off. I live in a daylight savings area so I have that set to on. Any ideas?
  16. Hi Everyone, I just purchased my first Lexus on Saturday. I was able to get a great deal through Lexus of Cerritos, CA. I have a few of newbie questions that I couldn't find by searching this forum: 1. What is the purpose of having your headlights stay on after you've locked your car and walked away? 2. Does anyone know if the ECT PWR setting hurts gas mileage? 3. What is the little sensor under the 3rd brake light? Thanks for your comments! Richard
