  1. my 98 ls400 had its check engine light come on. I havent been able to find out what it means just yet but since its been on i havent noticed any change in how the car drives. i drive in the city but im easy on the pedal driving like granny and my display is showing 20 mpg average. however after filling up my car recently i did the math (total miles driven/gallons filled) and the actual mpg is 14. If my display is somehow off how would i fix that? Or is it a chance that the check engine light is causing the misread for the MPG?
  2. my 98 ls400 is in the shop getting fixed up for various things and an oil leak being one of them. people at the shop said that they need to replace a valve cover gasket and the cost is estimated at $350 for parts and labor. am i going crazy? a gasket and labor for that much? are these special gaskets or is there multiple ones involved in this job? someone please provide insight..... :(
  3. i've done a search high and low on acceleration/hesitation issues and i havent found one that fits my description. i have a 98 ls400 that has issues after being parked for too long ie. overnight, after a full day of work, and etc etc....when i first put the car into drive/reverse my car will just sit there even if i hit the gas pedal. After about 5 seconds i can feel the car "catch" and then will start rolling. As stated before it only happens when my car sits for too long. i've read that 98's on up were built with some sort of delay while driving to allow the transmission to catch up but i havent read any where about it happening when shifting from park to drive. Transmission fluid was flushed Oct 08 if that helps.....
  4. recently purchased my 98 lexus ls400 with the nakamichi set up (completely stock). just the other day while turning the bass up my subwoofer went out. the next day the subwoofer was going in and out (should have left it alone) but being the curious one i messed with the bass knob again and the same thing happened. unfortunately now i get no bass from the subwoofer. not sure if its a bad wiring connection/bad amp etc etc....any suggestions on whats wrong or any way for me to troubleshoot the problem??? Now for the head unit....all of the knobs ie: volume/treble/mids/fader and etc. seem to work fine except that there seems to some kind of delay when turning them higher or lower. for instance i turned the volume all the way down then to about halfway up and there was like 2 seconds between time before the volume actually "caught up." everything works but im just curious as to why the delay happens and if there is any way to fix it....thanks for any input....
