  1. ^^^^hey thanks for the info...i took the car to get an oil change today..and asked one of the mechs about possibly replacing the vavle guides WITHOUT doing R &R if the heads,., The mech then claims that on this particular model of toyota(96es300) that the valves cannot come off without replacing the heads? is this true OR is he just trying to get more money out of me?
  2. ^^^^ hey i really appreciate the info..about how much does this procedure cost to fix?
  3. exhaust problems.. Everytime i start my car in the morning, grey smoke bursts from the rear..this only last for a few seconds, but it comes out as if the car is warming up" in the winter time or something..its 85 degrees out, and i dont think it should be doing that....what is the reason for this? i have about 135K miles on the car, and alot of mechanics keep saying "that is common for a car over 130,000 miles" . But im not buying that, what should i do? change the oil? fuel injection? any ideas?
  4. yeah, me and a friend replaced my thermo on my 96ES last summer..took about 2-3 hours..not a real hard fix though..actually my thermo was stuck..we went to advance auto parts, ordered the part, bought it.(under 40 dollars i think)..then put it in..if you take it to the dealer, your likely to pay almost 100 or more to get it fixed
  5. Recently my check engine light-signal came on in the dash of my 96ES300..this is the 2nd time it has been on in 3 years...last time it was on, i took it in (my car was under warranty at the time) and LEXUS fixed it...but i think since my car is not under warranty anymore, this might be an expensive fix..does anyone have any advice on this? and it cant be the oil, my oil is very clean, and i recently even had it serviced... on another note this morning, as i cranked my car up...smoke came out heavily out the exhaust pipes in the rear..this problem only happened on the initial startup..does anyone know how to fix that problem? thanks
  6. My driver and Passenger doors close rather loud on my 96ES300, Does anyone know how to make the doors close quieter? its like almost a loud rattling slam when they are closed...since i dont have kids, the back passenger doors close nice ,crisp and quiet....n-e suggestions? ps:..how do you reduce wind noise thru the windows as well?
  7. i likes i likes! i have a 96 es300..and i been thinking for years what i could to change it or upgrade it..i like what you did..so far i just have a goldpearl paint job on it..and i got the LEXUS "L" symbol on the side of the car above the tires, right where the door meets the front of the car...how much did you spend on the LIGHTING system for the front..and how much for the frame rework? get back at me asap
  8. there are some ONLINE picture editor cropping sites..but i cant remember the name..just do a search for jpg, mpg, or bitmap editing
  9. I couldn't agree more! :D I'm in the process of selling my '94 ES for this reason. I bought a '95 LS, and she's got tons of room fore and aft even for a guy that's 6'3(me!!!)! Don't get me wrong; the ES is a wonderful car(I think the 1MZFE is one of the greatest engines ever...soo smooth and quiet), but not if you're over 6'. LLoyd, it sounds like it's time to switch over to a LS too! ;) :D hell yeah..my dad has 96LS400,..and it so roomy compared to mine..u can almost cross your legs if your rinding in the back..it makes the ES300 feel like a coupe almost..but i also own a 98 Infiniti I30, and i drive it more because its more roomy then the lexus(and im only 5'10).. ....but thats the only flaw with the car is the size...and the way the car market is going know..GM, Chevy, even Saturn are making interiors bigger than the 96ES300(and not to mention more fashionable)...but if i were you, i would get a 98GS300..! its fast, rommy, not as BIG as an LS, but almost...
  10. I had a situation awhile back where my significant other didnt keep the proper coolant level in the car...so oneday, while in line at a fast food drive thru, the car begin to overheat..it got almost to the HIGH level and i pulled over and cut the engine off..sure enough the collant was all GONE...and the engine begin smoking heavily....after about a month, me and a friend were doing maintenance on the problem(because the car kept over heating even with the proper collant liquid in).come to find out the thermometer was stuck..and one of the wirings attactched to it wasnt plugged in properly,...so after we fixed it and put in a new THERMOMETER , the problem was solved.. BUT.. the engine tends to run sort of loud(to loud for a lexus)..what is the best remedy to reduce the engine noise?
  11. I own a 96es300...the smoothest riding car for its value...i love the ride in it.. but..the only thing i dont like about it is: its not enough room in it..after riding in 98 infiniti I30, or maximas, when you get it in, it feels smaller, and it actually is..for people taller than 6'0ft, i wouldnt recommend that car..i have had company ride with me (taller guys) and when they sat in the back seat, it was never enough legroom for them...or vice versa, if they sat in the front, and a a guy with average height sat in the back, he complained of less leg room because the passenger had the seat back to far..lol.. but the only problem i had with it was:(hard to explaing)..well the guy was getting into the passenger seat..and his right shoulder came down on the apparatus that holds the seat bealt in stow...?? and it tore..i have had this problem on both sides of the car..just not roomy enough
  12. thanks for the advice..when i get home tonight...i will test out the "beating and pounding" technique...but i have heard rumors that the problem can be fixed thru the FUSE box..my dad owns an LS400 but he has never had this problem..then i have heard rumors that you have to take the actual display glass off to get to the problem...but tonight i will try all the techniques out
  13. I own a 96 ES300, the dashboard lighting has begun to diminish over the past year...first it was the middle, then the upper right..now only the top is on..at night time , you can only see the speedometer, and not the level guages or anything else..is this a fuse problem? i have heard rumors that it cost LOTS of money from the dealer to get this problem repaired? any suggestions?
