  1. I was just at the Lexus dealership for a new key shell because mine's broken. $60 and that includes the new key. I don't really need a new key, and they're trying to tell me that the key shells I can get online don't work well--he says they're cheap (I'm sure), and that sometimes the parts don't fit and they have computer problems. I don't understand why a new, plastic, 3-button key shell after-market couldn't be used--even if it is a cheapo? Is this guy telling me BS? I mean, all there is to it is the battery, the little computer chip, and the key. Can someone please explain? I hate feeling like I'm getting robbed, and I'm hoping to get some more perspective.
  2. I looked for another similar post but couldn't find any. Just recently (a few weeks ago), Chicago had a brutal blizzard with brutal weather. I'm not sure if my problem is related, but since then, my 2000 ES 300 steering has been acting up--I can move the steering wheel slightly left and right like I normally do, but if I make a turn, the steering gets sticky at a certain point right about halfway through the turn. I have to use both hands to make the turn, and then it returns to normal again once I straighten out the turn. Is there something wrong with my power steering fluid, or is this something more serious? Am I able to fix it myself?
  3. I have learned that my car was at some point under a recall for oil gel problems which turn on the check engine light. This light has been on for quite some time--EVEN though I replace oil every 3-5K miles. The recall has expired. Does anyone have any experience with taking their car in after this recall and having any luck with Lexus taking care of it? Also, how much does something like this cost to fix?
  4. I have searched the Internet high and low, including ebay, to find an exterior 2000 ES300 front passenger side door handle--part of the trim around the handle cracked and broke off during cold weather. Does anyone have suggestions of online stores where I can find either a new or a used one, or at least the plastic trim around it?
  5. Does anyone know where I can get an inexpensive, OEM, new or almost-new black passenger side mirror for a 2000 ES300?
  6. Welcome saturation...about the tires....what size do you need & how much are you looking to spend? Are you looking for a good all round set of all seasons or dedicated winters? I am looking for year-round tires...I am on a limited budget (thanks to the economy), so a less expensive but still quality recommendation would be ideal...Also, if you have ideas for brakes/rotors (or just send me a URL to a good brake/rotor kit) that would be helpful as well. Thanks! My tire size is 205/55R16.
  7. I need to replace brake pads and rotors as well as my tires on my 2000 ES300, but I don't want to pay retail prices, so I would like to buy online and take into a shop for them to put on. Can anyone make recommendations on 1) a complete brake pad and rotor kit 2) inexpensive but good tires for the car Thanks!
