  1. my sc300 seems to have a govenor set at 140. ive hit it a couple times. got caught going 111 the other day, no more car for me. the cop said it was just going to be a standard ticket because it wasnt wreckless, the judge thought otherwise.
  2. probably a bad bearing on the a/c pump. mine makes a high pitched whining noise when i turn the a/c and it definitely robs me of some power. im going to look for a rebuild or take the pump off because a new one i think is like 450 dollars.
  3. since he changed the thermostat, he most likely had to drain the radiator fluid. because he had to drain the radiator fluid, he obviously had to put more in. ask him if he rid the system of air bubbles. i had to replace the water pump and thermostat on my jeep and i had the same problem. the water pump was completely frozen and i just replaced the thermostat anyway since i had it apart and they fail often. what i did was let it run and get to operating temperature then crack the lid to the radiator reservior. its probalby not the best way to do it but it worked. it should hiccup and the radiator fluid level should go down, add more. continue this until the level doesnt change.
  4. check the negative battery lead. i had a problem with this so i took the alternator off and had it checked but it was fine. i didnt feel like messing with the electrical system so i took it to the dealer and told them the problem was somewhere between the alternator and the battery. i even mentioned that they should check the ground wire first but they didnt. they ran check after check and i finally got it back a week later. who knows how many man hours they had in it. they finally said the ground had corroded and it was changed.
  5. mine does that all the time. a lot of my newer cds never even play; im not sure if its because of anti-piracy software that wasnt out 11 years ago or what. mine also skips on any time imperfection in the road. im getting rid of it soon, hopefully within a few weeks. the only problem with this is probably the bezel and harness, neither of which im personally worried about. if its anything like the other stereos ive swapped, there are just 4 speaker leads the antenna lead and the power leads which doesnt take long to sort out. if you dont know which wires are where, take a D cell batter and hook up like color wires for just a fraction of a second. this will make the speakers jump instantaneously and you can locate where those wires lead. it may make a popping sound but it wont do any damage. just dont use a 9v battery or anything. striped wires are negative, which you probably already know.
  6. found this somewhat useful information. its a simple process guide for making a carbon fiber hood, if anyone was interested. http://www.superstreetonline.com/techarticles/54702/
  7. im thinking about making an intake because $300 for a 3' piece of t-52 6061 aluminum tubing with 1 bend in it is a rip off. im considering a dual chamber design. the airwave that is cut off when you change gears reverberates in the intake at about the speed of sound and you want it to hit the intake manifold at the right time. anyway, you calculate the length at the rpm you desire the air wave to hit and you have the length, not so hard. im thinkin dual chamber because a smaller diameter intake increases the velocity with it hits therefore giving better low end performance. the problem with that is you need more air flow at higher rpm to attain better performance. im not sure exactly how im going to manage this but im thinking about puting a gate in the intake so that only the smaller chamber is open at low rpm and then somehow have the gate open at the desired rpm to allowed the full flow. im not sure if i want to use some kind of hydrolic actuator tied into maybe the master brake cylinder or the abs cylinder (since the abs is surely not going to be on at the same time im hitting mid-rpms) or perhaps some kind of servo. i need to do some research into it and figure out if i can make a simple circuit board and have it tie into the throttle management or something.
  8. im pretty sure i can manage cutting those holes with a cut torch, the only thing im concerned about is forking out the cash for a new tranny. im hoping someone would be willing to swap or deduct the price of a manual with a trade for my auto.
  9. how difficult would it be to swap a 5-speed manual for an auto on a SC300? i currently have an auto and i want to turbo it and modify it but im not going to bother unless it has a manual tranny. id be willing to do some minor chassis mods but i would think it would almost fit right in to keep manufacturering and assembly costs to a minimum. i could probably figure out for myself but im away at school and i dont have the proper tools and i dont feel like climbing under my car in a parking lot to check things out.
  10. '93 SC300, currently pearl white Im looking to change out the OEM stereo with something a little more hefty. im planning on removing the ash tray so that i can place the stereo there (havent checked for clearance yet, not sure if the radio will slide in or not). im also planning on putting about a 7" LCD display where the current radio sits (also havent measured that, this is all prelim stuff). i want to put like 2 10" subs in the back seat or larger if it will fit. i know there is a cavity behind the rear seats, im just not sure if there is enough space to convert it into a box for the subs that is ideal for whatever size i choose. im planning on using lexan and maybe doing some mirror work beind the subs for effect, depending on how patient i am. since im changing around the front console, i want to use carbon fiber cloth and epoxy to make my own bezel for the new config. does anyone know where i can purchase carbon fiber? ive researched for a few hours but i havent really found anywhere to purchase it by the yard. i have tons of wood working machinery to my disposal so fabrication isnt a big deal for me. i also have a large spray booth and anything i could need. i lost my license for speeding so i have a lot of time on my hands right now, im gonna do some major work to my car then sell it for maybe a 4runner so i can use it to go offroading and mountain biking. ontop of the interior work, im thinking about fashioning a body kit. i would initially make the molds from wood and foam then use carbon fiber or possibly fiberglass (not my first choice). after that im going to paint it some shade of charcoal. any pointers or heads up would be great.
  11. I have a '93 SC300 and it already has a 2jz engine. As far as i know, it lacks the exhaust, computer settings and turbos themselves to become supra bound.
