  1. If interested, I've decided to sell my 94 SC400, 108k, new trunk lifts, tires and brakes. Dark green& tan int. Needs D/S seat work. Runs very strong & quiet. Everything works well. Body is dingless and no rust. Have spare window mech. for both sides and telephone book size service manuals. Contact zigzag6191@aol.com (Phila.)
  2. Would anyone know if adding more tension to the retractor is possible. Buying one used could lead to identical problem. Lexus wants a mortgage payment for new one. Possibly a Toyota model might work? I've got a P/S headlamp in good shape, no leaks, very mild cloudiness- no yellow. $75 and a Climate Control-needs LCD, but works fine. $100 O.B.O.
  3. The front lamps on the lower most part of the bumper cover on pre 1995 cars are cornering lamps, after 1995 they were changed to fog lamps. The wiring plugs are different and the housings don't interchange. Be prepared to splice connectors.
  4. Mine does the same thing. You need to have the fuel tank sender calibrated. Not very hard but your gas tank has to be empty or very close to that.
  5. Do youself a favor and pay Lexus the money. If you've never done a major repair such as this, taking an SC dash apart is opening a can of worms that will lead to MAJOR trouble. You could wind up triggering an airbag leading to very serious injury or completely !Removed! up some other system. I have a 94 SC400 and have had the display out to relamp it so I know what you're getting into.
  6. ← I have a 94 sc400 and recently did a relamp of the cluster. There are about 36 bulbs in all, this includes all the instruments bulbs as well. The bulbs can be replaced with all the same wattage bulbs even though the originals are 1.5---3 watt. Pep boys, Auto Zone blister pack 2bulbs/$1.99. (1.5watt). Zigzag6191@aol.com( I'm also in Phila.)
  7. Don't bother looking, go to the dealer.... $70. A friend broke mine and I spent weeks looking
  8. you won't be able to get the old posts out of the old lift support without mangling it, I tried
  9. FYI... Going through the trunk is the only way to go. First -remove all the trunk floor trim, next -the trim across the back of the seat, exposing the fuel tank. The ball post on the lid arm is Locktited, use a heat gun to loosen it ,otherwise a wrench will strip it- it's very, very tight. I wound up using vise gripes instead of a wrench. The other end has two clips(upper and lower) holding it onto the post, these must be bent out of the way. To install the new lift, the bumpers on each arm must be moved out of the way and the lid raised up as far as possible to make the final connections. Good Luck to all that try it.
  10. Anyone know which is easier, going through the back seat or the trunk? I've got the body manual which isn't helpful for that item. Thanks in advance.
  11. Your "valve clattering" could be pre-ignition, especially in a higher mileage car, what grade gas are you using? 94 octane is recommended.
  12. If the car has high mileage try using a heavier oil (not multiviscosity) if it changes the sound, you've got a bad rod. It goes away away quickly because you've got a good oil pump.
  13. Go to your local Lexus dealer and get a WRITTEN estimate with part numbers. Than get a price from them for the parts. $3000 sounds like they're on drugs. Good luck.
  14. I relamped recently, there appear to be two different bulbs(a total of 35 for the entire cluster), the larger ones are #24(2watt can get anywhere)) the smaller I got from a foreign car parts place in Phila. $1 each
  15. Go to www.lexuspros.com/tutorial7htm Prior to performing this procedure lower your steering wheel, extend it toward the seat as much as possible then turn off the automatic feature. Remove your key and take off the positive battery terminal. If you don't do this first you will need to get your airbag reset and also risk accidental deployment while hanging over the steering wheel (could be very painful). I just replaced all my display bulbs and accidentially turned on the key, now I've got an airbag light all the time. Live and learn by others errors.
  16. I tried the drilling solution, didn't work for long. Finally I attached rubber tubing (windshild washer type) to the drains( leave the vent alone) on each headlamp then routed it into the air inake box.
  17. It's not paint, it's vinyl tape. Mine did the same thing. The only GOOD fix is to warm with hair dryer and remove it all, then vinyl stripping tape it back. Did mine in about an hour.
