  1. I own a 2005 RX330 so a little bit different. Only 1 time did I update the Nav system, and that was before smart phones. Now for navigation I use my smart phone with Waze/Google Maps to get around. Why would you spend the time and money to upgrade an antiquated system? Even when it was new, it was pretty sub-par. Good luck.
  2. What color fluid is leaking from your car? That is key in determine what's wrong. I borrowed this from the web: Fluid Investigator - 007 by Lauren Fix, The Car Coach www.laurenfix.com Do you have a fluid leak under your car or truck? Here’s a simple way to be your own private investigator. If you’re not sure whether you are losing oil, transmission fluid, coolant or brake fluid, here is a simple, but effective method for finding who or what caused it! Place an old sheet or large piece of white cardboard under the vehicle overnight. In the morning you will have your answer. Each fluid is a different color to help you diagnose the answers. If the leaks have the following color, you have a good indication of what fluid you are leaking. The location of the leak could also be a dead giveaway. Being a good sleuth make it obvious to conclude that there will not likely be an anti-freeze leak in the back of the vehicle. The government tints fluids different colors for safety reasons. This will assist you during maintenance schedules too. Keep a sharp eye on your vehicle; leaks can be frustrating and even dangerous. If you’re unsure go to a professional certified mechanic and ask for help. Even James Bond will ask for help at times.
  3. I had to replace the brakes/pads at around 28k miles on my 2005 RX,330. At the time the dealerships said that was a bit early but not an outlier. Depends on how you drive & where you drive. Sharp braking to avoid potholes (as I do all too often) will accelerate brake wear & tear. Driving in FL where you have to take (pothole-free) highways to get anywhere, your brakes *probably* will last longer.
  4. When I had my 2005 RX330 into the dealer recently they said that the error 4 message usually means you need a new unit. One of the service guys also commented that I was playing a burned CD (homemade CD) & the unit doesn't do well with "burned cds." I found when I turned my car off and then back on again the unit played & ejected fine. But what a hassle. Fortunately for me, I bought Lexus extended warranty which will cover a replacement unit but Lexus is dragging its feet. I agree with you that Lexus should take care of this but the chances are slim unless there's some class action.
  5. Do you think this problem with the lift gate struts is under warranty? And do you think this is a known problem? My Rx330 2005 started exhibiting this a few years ago & Lexus poo-poo-ed it. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  6. FYI - I drive in New England too & chose the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza (from this board's reviewers) which were $185/tire at Firestone. I called around & that was the best price I could find. They have to be better than the factory fires which I had worn out with only 28k miles & consequently did not pass inspection. Also, it seemed I was always slipping & sliding on those tires, hills with wet leaves were the worst. From now on, I'll be rotating & aligning 4x year due to the millions of potholes which are virtually impossible to avoid. I purchased "free" tire rotations & alignments for the life of the tires. *Note* to drivers who have not changed out their tires yet -- make sure you have the wheel lock key. For some odd reason we could not find the key to my wheels. Lexus changed them out for me for free because they are the only ones who have serviced the vehicle (other than now with Firestone & the tires.) I'll get back after I have had a chance to drive on ice & snow which I hope is not too soon!
  7. I've also heard good things about the Goodyear Assurance tires, & FWIW, Goodyear has not had the past problems that Firestone has.
  8. Tire Rack is a sponsor of this site and has owners' surveys regarding just about every tire made. Check this link and choose the type of tire you want to mount. Then it will list the brand and rating. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/index.jsp I am hoping to revive this thread on tires b/c I have been told by Lexus that probably due to alignment issues, I need 4 new tires. I have a RX330 '05 with 25K miles, and I drive very little on the highway but a lot in the city, mostly city stop & go. Any suggestions for new tires based on the driving that I do? Also, are people changing their tires with the seasons anymore? I've read about the Alenzas that sound great but how are they for summer driving (as short as it is in Boston!) Thanks!
  9. Do you remember what you paid for the Alenzas? And did you put them on yourself? Where did you purchase them? Thanks.
  10. The issue, I believe, is that the nav system on the Lexus 330 is sub par to begin with, and a less effective/efficient system than its competition. That's why all the brouhaha over the price. I have learned to check a real map or Google maps before hopping in the RX and depending on its nav system. A more reasonable upgrade fee from Lexus would yield greater upgrade participation, and perhaps increased revenue by capturing more of the piracy market.
  11. You need a solvent to remove the stain, not a solution. Have you tried mineral spirits? Be careful as it's highly flammable.
  12. Right I did that and none of them are 100% compatible...So I was just wondering if anyone has a phone that works really well even though it's not 100% When I looked today there were loads of bluetooth compatible mobile phones with the Rx330 2005 on all sorts of different providers. I just bought a LG enV using Verizon. Works like a charm.
