  1. 96 ES300 with 142,000. Runs well, but I've been plagued with CEL lights (code PO401). Replaced EGR valve and recently modulator and VSV valve. Still can't get rid of CEL.............Robert
  2. I eliminated recurring CEL lites by simply buying a new gas cap at Autozone for $6. Old gas cap was worn out.
  3. I bought a 96 ES300 w/ 119,000 miles 2 months ago - a super clean car. In checking the car's history, I called the Lexus Service manager who had previously serviced the car. He said that the CEL display recently showed "shift cylanoid malfunction" and to monitor it. I got a couple of CELs, but they went away when I filled the gas tank. I'm unsophisticated mechanically. How significant is this? What's the worst case scenario?
  4. I have a 96 ES300 with a 119,000 miles that looks new inside except for the driver's seat. What's the best way to buy a driver's seat in better or new condition?
  5. I just bought a very clean 96 ES300. One owner car w/ 115,000 miles. Before I bought it I had a competant mechanic check it out - his verdict - "a strong car." The day after I bought it the check engine light came on . Took it back to the dealer (very large Toyota dealership) and the sales manager said "Forget about it, these things happen all the time. Just keep driving the car. It could be a loose gas cap." I told him I wasn't comfortable w/ his advise since the owner manual says when the CEL comes on take it to the dealer immediately. I am not mechanically sophisticated. What should I do?
