  1. It's funny because when i had my 2003 Rx300, the manufacture date was 11/02 but it was sold as a 2003 model. And the Rx330's were first sold in Apr of 03 as 04 models. I believe the latest manufactured 03 Rx300 was manufactured in 01/03... Wonder why the Rx400h wasn't sold the same way? Hmm...
  2. Activating your windows to be adjusted from the driver controls If you've unplugged or changed your battery, you will notice that upon re-installation you will not be able to control the passenger windows from the driver's controls, and the passengers will not have their "auto" up/down function. This is because the windows need to be "activated". To activate, you must do the following to EACH window from its own control. 1. Starting from windows rolled up- Roll a window down to the half-way position and stop. After 1 second, roll the window up, and HOLD the switch for 3 seconds even after the window is fully rolled up. Then let go. The window is now activated. Do this for all 4 windows. Now you will be able to control all 4 windows from the driver's controls and the passengers will be able to use the auto up/down function.
  3. Adjusting the keyboard to “QWERTY” or “ABC” layout It’s personal preference, but I find it easier to type in destinations etc with the standard QWERTY layout vs the ABC layout. Whenever the battery is unplugged or replaced, the default setting is changed to ABC layout. To change the keyboard layout, 1. Click on “MENU” 2. Then next to “keyboard layout” touch either “ABC” or “QWERTY” based on your preference. Then touch “OK”.
  4. Adjusting navigation map display by “straight ahead” or by “North” Whenever you unplug or replace your battery, the car sets the navigation screen to its default setting, which shows the map view with “North” straight ahead vs whatever direction the car is facing. Sometimes in this setting, the red arrow (which represents the vehicle) does not face directly ahead unless you happen to be driving North. I personally find this setting confusing as I like to see what is ahead of me, not necessarily what is “North” of my position. By touching the icon at the top left of the screen, it will switch between “north” and “straight ahead” images. Turning “dual climate control” on or off Whenever you unplug or replace your battery, the car sets its default AC setting to dual climate control OFF. I find it’s convenient for passengers to be able to select their own temperature setting, so I like to set the dual climate control to ON. 1. Click CLIMATE. Touch the “DUAL” icon on the top right of the screen until the yellow line is illuminated or blank.
  5. The automatic rear hatch hidden on/off “button” If your Rx has the automatic rear hatch, there may be a point where you realize it no longer works and think it’s broken, but it may be as simple as you’ve accidentally hit the hidden “on/off’ button. If you open the glove box, to the left- adjacent to the center console, there is a button that may be pressed to turn the auto hatch function “on” or “off” if desired. I’ve accidentally hit this switch during cleaning and thought it was broken. Adjusting the air conditioner circulation to “inside air” or ‘outside air” Whenever you unplug or replace your battery, the car sets the AC to its default setting of circulating “outside air” vs “inside air”. It’s personally preference, but I like to keep the inside air circulating to avoid car exhaust fumes etc.
  6. Opt out of the annoying seatbelt “beep-beep-BEEP-BEEP!!!” If you are the type to take very short trips where wearing your seatbelt isn’t necessary, or just choose not to wear it, you may have noticed the car makes a series of annoying beeps for the first minute or so after you’ve put the car in drive. If you unplug or replace your battery, the car will change to the factory setting of allowing the beeps. Well, there’s a way to get rid of the beeps! 1. Sit in the driver’s seat with the key in the “ON” position. Using the “display” button on the steering wheel, rotate through the displays until the LCD on the gauge cluster is only reading the mileage, not trip A or B, just the mileage. 2. Turn the car off and pull out the keys. Open the driver’s door and close it again. Put the keys back into the ignition and put it to the “on” position again. As soon as the LCD display on the gauge cluster goes from “hybrid drive” back to the mileage, begin to hold down the “trip reset” button to the left of the steering column for approx 30 seconds. While still holding down this button, (it may be tricky) pull down the seatbelt and buckle it. At this point look at the LCD display on the gauge cluster. You may let go of the “trip reset” button at this point. The display will now read “seatbelt buzzer ON”. Press the “trip reset” button once and the display should change to “seatbelt buzzer OFF”. You’ve done it! You can turn the car off, as the setting is now changed and will remain this way until you change your battery again, or repeat the steps to change the setting yourself. Make sure to save your “seat”, “steering wheel” and “mirror” adjustment settings before you unplug your battery!! Whenever you unplug or change your battery, you will loose your seat, steering wheel and mirror position settings. So make sure to leave your seat, wheel and mirrors in the desired position before battery removal. After your new battery is installed, enter the car, turn the keys to “ON” and hold down the “SET” and “1” or “2” button at the same time for a few seconds until you hear a “BEEP” which means the settings are saved.
  7. Hey guys/gals! I've had my Rx400h for a few weeks now, and have learned several neat 'tricks' to make the experience of owning the car more enjoyable. I've also had to remove the car's battery for several hours (to change out the steering wheel) and learned that after battery removal, the car switches back to its factory default settings which are quite aggravating! So i've made this tutorial to help others who may want to play with the car's settings, or to customize it to fit their needs. If you know of any other tricks or helpful techniques to make the Rx400h easier to operate, please post them here! Hopefully this thread will become a sticky in the beginning of the forum to help others who purchase a Rx400h, or to anyone who has trouble playing with its various settings. So most of these have to do with switching out of the factory default settings, but some others are quite interesting, take a look! Mirrors Folding Down While in Reverse There is a hidden “hack” setting to allow the side rear view mirrors to fold down while in Reverse to allow better view of your surroundings. Look for the mirror adjustment buttons on the left of the steering column. If you leave the “LEFT” or “RIGHT” rocker switch in either the “L” or “R” position vs the “center” position, the mirrors will fold downward while in reverse. If you leave the switch centered, the mirrors will not fold down in reverse. This may save the motor life if you use reverse often or if the function does not help you much. Navigation Map “Region” may be incorrect If you have had your battery unplugged or replaced, your car’s navigation will automatically adjust to the factory map “region” which may not include your state. When you search for a destination, it will only search for addresses in the selected “region” so you want to make sure it’s set to your region. 1. Click on DESTINATION 2. Touch the “CHANGE” icon below the map on the top right of the screen 3. Select whichever “region number” your state is included in, then select “OK”
  8. Really?? I guess they produced the 08's even in the 11th month when they usually stop before the 9th... I guess it made sense for Lexus to do that since they needed more time to make the 010's...
  9. Hi! Are your oem tires size 17" or 18"? Apparently The rx400h models came with two size rims, either 17inch or 18inch. also, could you find out how much shipping cost would be from your location to Rhode Island USA 02917? Thanks!
  10. Honestly, no idea. But if you open it up, if you see any wires going into it, it will lead you to the switch, just not sure which switch type they use. I don't own an rx300 anymore so i can't look, but you'd either gain access from the outside or you'll have to remove the back cover of the tailgate. By money is on the back cover. Open the tailgate. The inside of the tailgate is broken into two halves, the bottom covered with a "carpet" like shell, with a plastic type shell on the upper half adjacent to the rear glass. Both of these panels are held on with only clips. So with a flat head screwdriver, try to pry the bottom one off. After it's off you just press it back in (did this before when replacing rear back-up bulbs) after you've done the fix. After you have the cover removed, try and look for the latching mechanism. And you're gonna have to take it from there since i don't have an Rx300 here to check on. You can take pictures and post them here and maybe we can help further. :) These are the covers i'm talking about I took some pictures of the hatch interior panels removed on my Rx400h. It's a different model and design, but i'm sure the Rx300 still uses the same "idea"
  11. Some of the 010 Rx headlights are different, in that the ones with the projector adjacent to the grille are without AFS while the ones with the projector on the outer edge have AFS, or reversed... not sure which is which. They had a problem determining which headlights on the 04-09 Rx's had AFS projectors or non-AFS projectors since both headlight designs looked the same. So for 010 they made them look different. The 04-09 Rx headlights had three options: -HID projector AFS with auto leveling -HID projector non AFS with auto leveling -Halogen reflectors The 010 Rx headlights have three options -HID projector AFS with auto leveling -HID projector non AFS with auto leveling (adjacent to grille) -Halogen projector (adjacent to grille) I believe...
  12. I think you might be right. I'm still seeing a lot of 08's BRAND NEW for sale... They're asking for prices in the low 40's though, that's a great deal for a new car considering their stickers read low 50's brand new.
  13. believe they're "internal", somewhere in the latch mechanism. They're not just a small rubber boot somewhere along the rim... Try taking the mechanism piece apart in the tailgate and see...
  14. Jeesh... why would they do that?? They would have had Aug Sept Oct Nov and Dec to make them. I'm sure there are a lot of buyers out there who would would rather take a new 09 Rx400h vs the 010 Rx350...
  15. Go to autozone or a store like that... Find some silver paint and black paint, and mix them until you get the right match.
  16. It's amazing how much damage there is to the front of the ES that went into your back bumper while your back bumper doesn't have much damage at all... I hope the Sentra pays through the nose... I hope they have to pay for both cars.
  17. Ahh thanks SW, yeah the bumper to bumper warranty i'd like to extend. That would cover the little things like the heated seats not working, seat motors, etc, right? I know the lexus heated seats are awful...
  18. My first car (03 Rx300) is still at the dealer we traded it into, for sale. If the dealer wasn't over an hour away, i'd go by and look at her :( I wish there was a way i could track it when it finally does get sold. We had lojack on the car, i wonder if it can be tracked via lojack? lol.
  19. Invest in a machine orbital etc. Practice using the machine as it's very easy to make mistakes with it... It'll save you hours vs using compounds by hand.
  20. Hey guys. Are there any 2009 Rx400h models out there? Or was 2008 the last model year Lexus produced the Rx400h? I just did an autotrader and ebay search for 2009 Rx400h's, and not a single one??
  21. I'm not sure which version nav disc is in mine (mine was made in later 07, so i assume whatever was out then). I was planning on upgrading it now, but a new one will be coming out by the end of the year. and here in RI there have been a few dramatic changes to the highways (I95) and this disc isn't aware of them. It always tells me to go one way, but the road moved! I'm hoping the next disc will have more updates as this new highway location is a biggie...
  22. Yepp, but i believe you'll need to do a little wiring. but the fasteners to the car are the same.
  23. The LS460L uses the bi-xenon version of the LS460 headlight projector. The projectors look identical from the outside, yet in the L, there is a solenoid that pulls down the cutoff shield in the low beam projector when in "high beam mode", which adds more light above the cutoff to aid the halogen high beam projector. Also the Taiwanese LS460 headlights use the bi-xenon version.
  24. Hey guys/gals. Some of you might think this is a pointless post, but i just thought i'd share something i felt tonight that really got me thinking, that really made me appreciate my family's health and to be grateful for the simple things in life we often take for granted. This evening i took my girlfriend out to dinner and to see a movie, this particular movie, "My Sister's Keeper". For those of you who haven't seen or heard of it, it's based on a book written a few years ago (sadly the only novel i've ever read beginning to end...) about a family who must deal with their daughter's cancer. I won't get into details in case any of you would like to go see it, but it's easily the most touching movie i have ever seen. It shows the struggles the family goes through and how the illness affects every member in the family in a special way... Health is something i- like many other's i'm sure, often take for granted, but after seeing this film it really made me appreciate the little things. I could never imagine what it must feel like to have a family member go through something so horrible like this, i just thought i'd take the time to share my "thoughts" so we could all take a minute to appreciate life and the fact that we're all here and have the greatest gift of all, our health! So cheers to our health
