2007 Rx 350 With 2010 Rx 450 Headlights !
cduluk replied to lexusSTORM's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
WOW ! Thanks for that ! i am interested in purchase , although it seems too expensive !,,, its a shame though those are some nice headlights , btw im in Australia, and the 2010 RX 350 costs like over $100,000 !! prices here are SO EXPENSIVE ! http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/bncis/details.aspx?Cr=1&R=10381571&keywords=&trecs=79&__sid=131A3BEF9F7E&__Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|1||pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&__Qpb=1&tsrc=allcarhome&__Nne=15&seot=1&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965468%204294774259&silo=1011 Have a look at that, thats an Australia car seller website, or you can check the LEXUS AUSTRALIA website, i dont get why lexus is so cheap in american, where as Australia is like x3 the Price of yours!!! Is that in American dollars!!?? That's insane!! LOL -
Hmm... sort of, and no. I changed my HID bulbs to Philips' 6000k as it produces just a tint more violet/white than even the factory 4100k HID. And the LED seems a little too "blue". I don't believe you're going to find a white LED that matches the factory HID color, or at least not one that will last long in the headlight. But i'm pretty sure you'll like it! And the amount of output for the LED bulb isn't as great as the factory bulb as the LED only has maybe 40 degrees of view while a filament in a bulb a 360 degree viewing angle. There are LED bulbs in existence that utilize a few LED's on it firing in different directions, but i haven't been able to find one that lasts more than a month or doesn't melt the socket from overheating! It's a trade off...

haha, or BMW!

Ah! Been there, done that and bought the T-Shirt! The factory HID bulbs in the 07-09 Rx's are Philips 85122 or 85122+ which are in the 4100k range. The only way you'll be able to match the factory low beam HID bulbs is to use the same brand bulb for the fog lights. One brand of HID bulb, for example Osram, might advertise their bulb as 4100k also, yet the color, intensity, and age qualities differ substantially from Philips' 4100k bulb. If you ever notice an early 2000's Acura TL or RL (which uses the Osram 4100k HID bulb) you'll notice it looks very "pink". However look at any early 2000's Lexus with the Philips 4100k bulb and it will look more white/blue. And there are many many other aftermarket HID bulbs on the market. Most of them are REALLY cheap and won't last very long. And their "4100k" is guaranteed to look much different than Philips' 4100k. IMO you should try to find a 9006 "kit" that uses the Philips 85122 or 85122+ (the same color with only minor differences no one's been able to demonstrate) bulb that you can install in the fog lights. The kit will come with the Philips 85122/+ bulb re-based for use in the Rx350's 9006 foglight with the appropriate ballasts to ignite them from the 12V going to the foglights halogen bulb. Also keep in mind installing HID bulbs in halogen projectors will cause excessive glare above the cutoff line (which might blind oncoming drivers) and put less light on the road ahead of you where you need it. HID bulbs and Halogen bulbs have different focal points. The Rx350's fog light reflectors are designed for halogen 9006 bulbs. The contour of the bowls are designed around the focal point of light of a halogen bulb. Put an HID bulb in a halogen reflector and you'll get glare and less usable light. Right now i'm currently using PIAA ion yellow halogen bulbs. They're yellow and add more usable light than an HID bulb would. Any halogen bulb, even HIR bulbs would work without causing glare, however you won't be able to match the HID's in the low beams. And also beware of any halogen bulb manufacturer that labels the color as 4100k- they're lying! Just as HID bulbs with varying manufactures will look different even though they might advertise 4100k, the same is true for halogens. As for the parking light in the high beam reflector, that can easily be replaced with a white LED bulb. BEWARE though, as to the brand of LED bulb you replace it with. About 90% of the aftermarket LED bulbs on the market wont last a month in a Lexus headlight as the voltage isn't regulated in the least, and the LED's will burn out very quickly. I've only been able to find ONE white LED bulb in that size that wont burn out. I currently have them in my headlights, replacing the parking light bulbs in the high beam reflector housings. It's been over 2 years and they're still functioning 100% and i expect them to last hundreds of thousands of hours more. NIGHT and DAY difference from the other junk LED's i've tried. They have voltage regulators built in which limit the voltage going to the LED's no matter what the input, so they never overheat. Here they are: http://hidconcept.co...uct_detail&p=69 They're in size 194 (or T10) which is the same thing as 168 which is what you need. And don't let the yellow appearance of the LED fool you, it's simply the yellow phosphorous coating that all white LED's have. When illuminated it's perfectly white. It's better to do it right the first time so it lasts; it might be a little costly but at least you wont have to make repairs! <_<

SERIOUSLY? They can't be sold in the US because the airbags aren't "sophisticated" enough? People should be allowed to buy any car they want so long as it doesn't injure "other" drivers on the road. No airbags, airbags not designed for kids, whatever! Put a disclaimer on the dash and be done with it, let adults enjoy their million dollar tin cans! <_< What is this world coming to?

You can get to the parking light bulbs from behind the headlight units. Open the hood and remove panels until you can feel behind for the socket. Twist counter-clockwise and pull out, then do the reverse to get it back in. I take it you're looking for more of a "white" look? If so then replace the filament bulbs with LED bulbs. BEWARE though, as to the brand of LED bulb you replace it with. About 90% of the aftermarket LED bulbs on the market wont last a month in a Lexus headlight as the voltage isn't regulated in the least, and the LED's will burn out very quickly. Very common problem on the 92-96 ES300 and 92-97 SC300/400 models. Try doing a search and you'll find plenty of info on this. The needles "can" be replaced however Lexus doesn't sell them, only the entire cluster. Sometimes used needles show up on eBay but most likely they're burned out too.

A few summers ago i did quite a few ES and SC gauge cluster repairs for people after putting up an ad on eBay offering my services. I had about a cluster a week which worked out pretty well, and believe me, my repairs were 100% better than that of lextech.org. However after about a year i got a threatening letter in the mail from a lawyer of lextech warning me to quit doing the services. Apparently they have a patent for any repairs to the Lexus clusters! They've got everybody by the b@lls!

Woahh that's WAY too much money for a simple clear blend! Can you take it to another shop? $300 sounds more reasonable for a small clear blend like that. You can heat the emblems up with a blow-drier and remove them, and do the same to reattach them. If you removed them ahead of the time a shop wouldn't have much to charge you for. Or you can get the emblems from Parts.com for pretty cheap. Since the damage is on a vertical panel of the car (v.s. a hood or roof) a clear blend will hold up just fine. I've done two small clear blends and they've both held up for over 2 winters now, on the right rear 1/4 panel below the tail light (i backed into a mailbox and it chipped the paint). It was definitely a better choice than just throwing some touch-up on it since the was up high. But in your case the damage is pretty low. Maybe you could try using some touch-up first and see if you can live with it for a while. <_<

I had to have my old Rx300 windshield replaced after it got cracked. They put in an aftermarket windshield under the name Pilkington. Indeed the aftermarket windshield is VERY different. Some people try to argue this, but it wasn't even close to the OEM windshield in terms of quality. The aftermarket one had a LOT of waviness. The first replacement aftermarket windshield had waviness on the right side, so i made them replace it with the same type. This replacement was OK on the right side but was wavy on the left side maybe 4" in from the side, so whenever i turned left i was in the twilight zone. I had them replace it again but it was wavy all over. Apparently no two are the same! Also of notable difference is the "tint". The OEM glass had somewhat of a green tint, whereas the aftermarket windshield had NO tint. It didn't match the side glass any longer. And the aftermarket windshield squeaked whenever the wipers were used, and i tried several types of wipers. I didn't end up keeping the car long enough to test its pitting resistance, so i can't give input here. And i didn't notice any extra wind noise after the aftermarket windshield was replaced. I also noticed that the rear view mirror "base" was misaligned on the aftermarket windshield. So i had a 1/4 inch gap between the headliner and the bezel around the rear view mirror on the glass. It wasn't movable; it was glued on with some special glass glue i guess... I don't even want to know how the auto wipers would handle... quite frankly i don't WANNA know! How long are you planning on keeping the car for? How picky are you about the above things? If you're planning on keeping it for a long time i would get an OEM windshield. However if it's leased or if you're planning on ditching the car soon, just throw an aftermarket one in. They're about $200-$300 whereas an OEM windshield is in the $1500 range. In my state, if the car is within 3 years of age i believe it's the LAW that insurance must replace the glass with OEM if the owner requests it. Look into this, maybe it's the same for your state!

damn you're right, touch-up won't help much... You can see the paint "flaking" around the scratched areas, which only means maybe 2mm on both sides of the scratches needs to be sanded away before touch-up can be applied or else it will "bubble" and you won't be able to get the touch-up smooth. My guess is that they could sand, prime, and blend that lower area and clear the entire hatch from the rear wiper, down. It's probably the only way to make those lines invisible. Just make sure to tell them to put that decal back on straight this time! :P

2007 Rx 350 With 2010 Rx 450 Headlights !
cduluk replied to lexusSTORM's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
UGH... i can't find the website. I did find it here though, http://www.uyeeacc.com/democars/2010/11/lexus-rx330-03-head-lamp-projector-hybrid-look-ls600-style/ -
Exactly! If you could easily replace them when (and i literally mean "when", not "if") they burned out, it wouldn't be a big deal. But opening and sealing the headlights is one of the biggest "pain in the @ss" projects you could possibly imagine. It's by far one of the most "annoying/painful/wish i hadn't started it" projects i've done to my car. I did several headlight retro's to my old Rx300 and one with my Rx400h. I've had to make repairs on a 90 degree day in August and during a 20 degree evening in December with snow blowing in the garage- and believe me, there's NOTHING more painful than playing with the headlights in the cold without gloves (because you need your sense of touch) having to rush so you can drive the car to work the next day. And odds are, it'll take you several tries to seal them up correctly having to control dust, fogging, position, and making a perfect fit, all at the same time. If you install any type of "halo" or aftermarket LED in your headlights, guaranteed 100% it's going to go out on either the hottest day of the summer or the coldest day of winter. And believe me, you're gonna wish you simply left the headlights alone! The two types of Halo's (also called angel eyes) out there are made of CCFL's (cold cathode tubes) or by LED's (one on each end with a clear plastic diffuser in the shape of a circle). Both of them are unreliable, with the latter being the better of the two. However the LED halo's aren't very bright, and the entire circle never illuminates uniformly. I've also found that the power going to the little parking light bulbs in the RX headlights (the tiny bulb on the high beam reflector and the one illuminated behind the side orange reflector) is never set at 12V. It fluctuates considerably between 12V and 14V based on the alternator. When cars use factory bulbs this fluctuation is OK as bulbs can take varying voltages, however LED's cannot. Typically when LED's are used on cars from the factory, the cars computer has a voltage and current regulator so the LED's always get a consistent voltage so they don't burn out. So, if you replace any of the parking light bulbs with your average aftermarket LED bulb, most likely it's going to burn out. There are only several on the market that have built-in voltage and current regulators with heat-sinking to handle the fluctuation in voltage. If you wire the angel eyes to these parking lights, unless the angel eyes have built in voltage regulators, say Adios!

OH NO!! :cries: Can you touch-up the scratches?

Do You Need A Relay For Led Rear Car Lights?

you drive a what? This is a Lexus website. -
Aftermarket angel eyes are incredibly unreliable. I wouldn't go near them personally...

2007 Rx 350 With 2010 Rx 450 Headlights !
cduluk replied to lexusSTORM's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
Ah yes actually! I found these a long time ago and emailed the seller to get more info on them. Apparently they do NOT have AFS but they do have auto-leveling. And they run off of a single HID bulb, not 3 bulbs (for each of the 3 projector lenses) nor by LED's. The cutoff line was pretty poor... The cost was around $1500 each also. i'll try to find the site again to post. -
What Is Your Fuel Comsumption On 2006 Rx400H
cduluk replied to volosong's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
I've never heard of waxing your car to increase fuel mileage... -
I haven't named the "car" but i have named the navigation system... In 2005 when i got the Rx300 i named the Nav lady, "Kate"- no idea why, just picked it. And what do you know, in the spring of 2006 i met my girlfriend who's name is Kate! We've been together ever since, and i still drive with 2 girls named Kate telling me where to go... it's quite interesting!

Agreed, but unfortunately that is a predominant matra within the US business climate (Large Corporations) Profit first (which is good) Quality somewhere down the line and long term business plans (I am talking more than 1 year) not in the agenda...Kind of like most politicians, talk the talk, but not the walk... You're right, this type of thing is happening EVERYWHERE. For example in my state of Rhode Island, one of our cities just went BANKRUPT this week; literally- a CITY, filed for bankruptcy. Who's ever heard of an entire CITY filing for bankruptcy!!?? No one thinks about longevity anymore, it's really a shame.

Awesome! I can't wait to see the new RX in 2014; they really screwed up with the 2010 model design... And it's about time Lexus put a hybrid system in the ES. I still think they should have ditched the HS and focused on an ES-h instead. <_< And i am NOT liking those "leaked" pics of the 2012 GS, at all. The interior looks like something out of a freakin BMW. And of course, no optitron gauges. Who the heck would buy this GS over the BMW 5 series (or whatever model they have that looks IDENTICAL to this)? I doubt it's going to have better performance than the BMW, and from these pictures it looks the SAME. Why can't Lexus just be Lexus and BMW just be BMW? Here's the BMW 5 series interior. Honestly it looks better than the new GS! Personally, one of the things Lexus has always one me over with is the appeal of their interiors; which they have completely lost with this fugly thing... But maybe this is just a joke... it has to be, right? Of course i thought this when the 2010 RX design was first leaked, and of course it wasn't.

Woah... That's BAD! How much $$$ did Ford really save by using a lower quality metal for that part? Doesn't sound very "built Ford tough" to me, especially on their pickup models which inherently take the most abuse.
-
The cheapest place to get it "new" is from parts.com. They have it for $184.33 and the part name is "Seats and tracks, Front seat components, Seat back panel" see here: http://www.parts.com/oemcatalog/index.cfm?action=getPartLocator&siteid=2&chapter=AEB8906§ionids=0,51873&groupid=2673&subgroupid=4391&componentid=10606&makeid=20&model=LS%20400&year=1995&catalogid=2&displayCatalogid=0 Can you find a used one on ebay or from a junkyard? That price sounds really steep... Try car-part.com as well, as it links you to junkyards all over the world.

In May of 2009 we picked up the 2008 Rx400h with 40k miles with AWD, NAV, everything but ML for $31,000. You still can't find that price TODAY. I blame fuel prices... Gotta love the hybrid!

My guess is that there's a little moisture in the air going through that area, and what you see is that moisture (water, oils) condensing and seeping out. This happens to my A/C system often; right around the vents on the dash i'll see a similar "stain". If you open the air filter box, my guess is that you'll find an oily residue covering the plastic. I have the same stains on that part on my Rx400h, 2008 with 67k miles. Has anyone ever "detailed" your engine bay? Sometimes people will rub some type of Armor-all or tire shine on the black plastic inside of the engine. If any of that shiny stuff got into the crevasses around that part, any air that pushes out from inside that part will push the shiny stuff out and leave a spill similar to what you see. I know i've done it to mine, so that's another possibility. Either way, i don't think it's anything to be concerned about. <_<
